MAX receives ViiV Community Grant

MAX Ottawa is honoured to be the recipient of a Community Grant by ViiV Healthcare. This additional $22,000 will support our GBT2Q Peer Engagement in Ottawa from September 2019 to July 2020.

MAX Ottawa’s GBT2Q Peer Engagement project seeks to meaningfully involve GBT2Q peers in our programs and services.

The highest rates of HIV incidence and prevalence in Canada continue to be among GBT2Q men. Research also highlights the high prevalence of depression, anxiety and loneliness within our communities. Peer engagement is a successful intervention for GBT2Q men to deliver culturally safe programs and services that address the above subjects. By providing spaces to individuals living with or at risk of HIV, particularly those at multiple syndemic factors, it improves individual and community health outcomes by building resiliency and increasing empowerment.

More specifically, this grant will support the engagement of peers and volunteers to support the facilitation of the MAX Groups, Keeping it 100 and the upcoming sexual health workshops for GBTQ+ newcomers and refugees. It will also support the implementation of our Volunteer Program.
