DESCRIPTION:2SPIRIT ART & HEALING with SPECIAL GUESTS \n\n\n\nKole Peplinskie & Tai Reign \n\n\n\nLive-streaming on the Ottawa Trans Library Youtube and Facebook Channels. \n\n\n\nOpening Prayer by Elaine Kicknosway \n\n\n\nKole Peplinskie (they/them) is an Anishinaabe indigiqueer beader and artist currently living on the unceeded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory known as Ottawa. They are of mixed Polish\, French and Algonquin ancestry\, with familial ties to Kebaowek First Nation. Kole has always created art in some capacity their whole life\, but started creating professionally under the name Rustling Pine in 2018. In 2020\, their mixed media/beadwork piece “Grassroots” was shown at Carleton University Art Gallery and now remains there as part of the gallery’s permanent collection. \n\n\n\nTai Reign (they/them) is a Two-Spirit artist from Peepeekisis Cree Nation based in Regina\, Saskatchewan\, Treaty 4 Territory. As a young artist they’ve used spoken word as an avenue of self expression. Collaborating with artists from different disciplines has helped them find a sense of connection and play from art and storytelling. They have performed across Canada and at the Voices of Today Youth Poetry Festival in Toronto. On their artistic journey they’ve ventured into longer forms of storytelling; where they have co-created and performed two devised theater productions\, Lift/Break and The Rehearsal. Currently they are the Youth Poet Laureate for Saskatchewan Writers Guild. \n\n\n\nSupported by the Canada Council for the ArtsGrapics by Blue PettiesProduced and Mentored by Elaina Martin

Elle est connue pour son travail de documentation des politiques et projets de loi anti-trans\, incluant sa Carte du niveau de risques législatif anti-trans. Elle a également aidé plus de mille personnes avec leurs demandes de changement de nom et de sexe légal\, a organisé la Marche trans de Montréal depuis cinq années consécutives\, et la Dyke March de Montréal depuis trois ans. Elle est également en train de tenter les examens du Barreau de l’Ontario! \n\n\n\nAnimateurice de l’événement \n\n\n\nStéph Meunier (iel/ellui\, il/lui\, elle) habite à Hull en territoire Anishinaabe non-cédé. Iel anime des groupes de soutien et ateliers\, écrit des zines et produit le balado Gaytineau. Iel anime le groupe de soutien trans 16 ans + de Trans Outaouais depuis 2024 et a travaillé chez Jeunesse Idem comme intervenant·e. Son approche est ancrée dans l’anti-oppression et la justice sociale. Au quotidien\, Stéph aime chanter avec des ami·es\, nager\, faire de l’art et vivre en coop d’habitation.

Live Audience Masked and provided. \n\n\n\nLimited Seating – Must Register on Eventbrite \n\n\n\nOr watch the live stream on the Ottawa trans Library Facebook and YouTube pages. \n\n\n\nMikiki is an artist and queer community health activist of Acadian/Mi’kmaq and Irish descent from Ktaqmkuk/Newfoundland\, Canada. Their work is grounded in over 30 years of experience in HIV/AIDS activism\, sexual health education\, and harm reduction. Mikiki has held frontline and governance roles across Canada\, including developing the country’s first sexual health promotion programming for gay men living with HIV. They have contributed to national and international research\, policy\, and training initiatives with organizations including Canadian AIDS Society\, Canadian Treatment Action Council\, and GNP+’s Beyond LIVING\, championing stigma reduction\, community care\, and autonomy. \n\n\n\nRaised in Tio’tiake|Montreal\, Tierney is a Scottish/Irish/Italian/white/settler\, trans*\, creative whose work sits at the intersection of art and education. Currently a prof at the University of Ottawa and the Academic and Public Program Specialist at Carleton University Art Gallery\, Tierney has taught at Algonquin College\, the National Gallery of Canada\, and has designed and delivered arts and arts-based anti-oppression workshops on unceded Algonquin land\, the area surrounding so-called Ottawa\, since 2004. Globally minded\, locally-rooted\, Tierney approaches their work as an endless series of opportunities to bridge creativity and knowledge-sharing in the service of social transformation. \n\n\n\nT4T – Tea for Tara – A Trans Community Storytelling Program \n\n\n\nA year-long\, community-rooted storytelling program created by Trans and Non-binary people\, centered on monthly gatherings where participants share\, witness\, and preserve lived experiences.

They are the owner of Fairy Cowboy Tours\, a drag-artist led walking tour company focused on sharing the queer history of Ottawa. Barley performs across the country as a theatre and drag artist\, known for their drag king persona Morgan Mercury. They have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs and Policy Management\, Development Policy from Carleton University\, and are completing a Bachelor of Journalism at the University of King’s College in Halifax\, Nova Scotia. \n\n\n\nKiran Niet is an artist who can’t pick a medium\, an event host\, a zinester\, and an accidental academic. Above all\, he is fascinated with community-building and storytelling\, whether through research\, art\, or organizing. As a volunteer at the Ottawa Trans Library\, he curates events centering queer and trans community. In his free time\, Kiran recklessly consumes unhealthy amounts of queer theory and sings in a choir. He can often be found tabling at art markets with his friends. He is about to graduate from Carleton University with a Bachelor’s degree in Global and International Studies\, specializing in Communications. \n\n\n\nThank you Canada Council for the Arts for supporting this important Trans Community Initiative. \n\n\n\n“Tea for Tara” is a monthly storytelling program for the Trans\, and Non-binary community to share\, and witness Trans Stories and history all archived for future generations\, including networking and mentorship.

He is a Vanier scholar\, visual artist\, activist\, curator\, and educator\, with works presented across Canada and internationally. Ware is part of the Black August Arts Residency Collective\, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter–Canada\, curator of the That’s So Gay show\, and author of numerous papers\, articles\, and books. He is co-editor of the best-selling “Until We Are Free: Reflections on Black Lives Matter in Canada” (URP\, 2020). \n\n\n\nWith Facilitator Joanis Sherry\, Board Co-Chair of the Ottawa Trans Library. \n\n\n\n“Tea for Tara is a year-long monthly storytelling program in support of the Ottawa Trans Library for gathering\, sharing and publishing of Trans stories & history along with Networking and Mentorship.” Produced by Elaina Martin in collaboration with CUAG. \n\n\n\nStick around after the one hour storytelling segment and enjoy a chill space to explore and celebrate creativity.
