DESCRIPTION:First Crush and Side By Side Weekend present…\n\n\n\nTVOD (Brooklyn\, NY) \n\n\n\nBrooklyn-based rockers TVOD stand out with emotional\, sometimes juvenile lyrics\, paired with driving\, catchy songs that never fail to get a crowd moving/moshing. Influenced by post-punk\, egg punk and krautrock\, TVOD effortlessly weave musical genres in a way that comes off seamlessly. “More than anything\, their sound is engineered to make you move” (Creem Magazine). The brainchild of singer-songwriter Tyler Wright\, the project draws from personal and external inspirations like the nightlife/music scene\, heartaches\, World War II\, the untimely death of a beloved pet fish\, and so on. TVOD’s vivid storytelling paints a gritty tongue-in-cheek picture of being a D.I.Y. artist grinding it out in NYC\, complete with fabled tales about the degenerate lifestyle and all the good and the bad that comes with it. \n\n\n\nCDSM (Atlanta\, GA) \n\n\n\nCSDM a.k.a. Celebrity Death Slot Machine is a “freakout post-punk group” (FLOOD Magazine) based in Atlanta\, GA. Their stylish sonic onslaught is anchored around dancey rhythms\, atypical synthesizer work\, timely saxophone growls\, as well as goth rock-esque melodies that serve to recount bizarre humor-laden tales from a derelict parallel universe. The death disco purveyors – featuring past and current members from Material Girls\, Neighbor Lady\, Mothers and Rose Hotel – are to unearth their debut full-length album entitled Convertible Hearse on May 23rd\, 2025 via Mothland & EXAG’ Records. \n\n\n\nKAY-fayb (Gatineau\, Quebec) \n\n\n\nKAY-fayb is sound art trio Yolande Laroche\, Pierre-Luc Clément and Linsey Wellman – exploring while engaging with the performative limits and/or/without potential of orchestral dissonance\, deceptiveness\, technologies\, mantras and evasive concepts such as obsessions and make beliefs through structured improvised performances.  \n\n\n\nEvent Information \n\n\n\nJuly 6th\, 2025 \n\n\n\nHouse of Targ – 1077 Bank Street\, Ottawa ON  \n\n\n\nDoors at 8:00pm | 19+   \n\n\n\n$20 advance / $25 at the door  \n\n\n\nFirst Crush Safer Spaces Policy\n\n\n\nAttendees\, artists and staff are expected to respect one another and the space. DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 8\, performances start at 9. \n\n\n\nKnitting – What started out as a pandemic hibernation project is now the fully fledged Montreal indie-rock-unit knitting. With “sinuous\, bouncy guitars…and choruses that have the potential to metamorphose into earworms” (FME)\, knitting makes guitar driven and lyrically introspective indie rock evoking the nostalgia of 90s alternative rock bands like Pavement\, Pixies and Sonic Youth. Nestled among entwined guitars\, rousing basslines\, and explosive drums\, Dempsey’s subtle vocals recount bizarre crushes\, bad habits\, and summertime melancholy. knitting’s songs are earnest and raw\, giving reflexive queer/trans representation that diversifies the scope of narratives historically given space in indie rock music. \n\n\n\nPith – A freak folk fixture of the Ottawa-Montreal-Toronto corridor for over 10 years. With a 4th LP on the way Pith has honed their sound into psych-tinged queer cosmic country\, anchored by the effects-drenched nylon string of histrionic front-they Chrissy and backed by scene veterans Sarah Bartlett (Lake Urmia\, From Them) and Cole Emberley (Deathsticks). A little medieval\, slightly punk\, largely cathartic\, occasionally silly \n\n\n\nGirl with dream – Songs to make or break your heartNick Bendsza – Dark\, sensitive\, direct\, spiritual and tender; Bendzsa blends trap\, acoustic folk\, ambient\, and indie to texture and paint an exaggerated world of genuine experience and fantasy. Raised in Newfoundland\, the producer\, songwriter and audio engineer currently lives in Montreal. Bendzsa’s emotionally blunt yet subtly humorous lyrics are delivered by his distinctive voice; sometimes tortured\, sometimes sweet\, always deep\, strong and expressive.
