DESCRIPTION:Looking for a fun\, queer chat with people your age? Want to just hang out\, eat some snacks and meet new friends? Are you interested in having some discussions about sexuality\, identity\, homophobia and your personal experience? YSB is proud to offer Spectrum\, a program for 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Ottawa! \n\n\n\nSpectrum meets every Monday from 5-7 p.m. upstairs at our 147 Besserer St location. \n\n\n\nWe provide workshops\, discussion groups\, and art collaborations\, as well as counselling services\, peer mentoring\, and primary care resources. \n\n\n\nSpectrum can help with challenges like depression\, anxiety and suicide while also offering practical support to navigate the mental health\, housing and educational systems. \n\n\n\nSpectrum is also a safe space for youth to: \n\n\n\n\nMeet new people\n\n\n\nEngage in workshops and discussions\n\n\n\nAccess services like showers\, laundry\, computers\, telephones\n\n\n\nGet referrals\n\n\n\nAccess trained counsellors and peer mentors if youth need to talk\n\n\n\nJust hang out!\n\n\n\n\nActivities include: \n\n\n\n\nAn introduction to our space and expectations\n\n\n\nA queer current events discussion\n\n\n\nActivities\n\n\n\nAccess to snack during group\, showers\, laundry\, harm reduction supplies\, telephone\, internet\n\n\n\nAccess to crisis counsellors from YSB and/or our in-house counsellor from Centretown Community Health Centre\n\n\n\nA relaxed space where youth can be out and proud!\n\n\n\n\nContact: Aidan FritzEmail: afritz@ysb.ca

DESCRIPTION:Calling all the queer (all genders and sexualities are welcome) guitarists\, singers\, hummers\, drummers\, kazooists\, harmonica-ers (we know it’s not a word)\, shakers\, ukelele-ers (again\, we know)\, cajonists\, spooners\, whatever instrument you play that isn’t plugged in\, let’s jam to some songs together and have some laughs and a good time. \n\n\n\nIf you are a beginner or intermediate (none of us are pros here!) and can play some basic chords then you will do great. The music should be easy to play and we hope the songs will be familiar to everyone. \n\n\n\nDon’t worry if you are not a musician\, we need fans (and roadies!) too. We have some shakers and little noise makers you can join in on the fun. Your voice and encouragement will be a wonderful addition to our cacophony of sound! \n\n\n\nFee: This event is a pay-what-you-can with a suggested fee of $5 per person. We will take this time to practice our parts\, and help guide anyone who needs assistance.\n\n\n\nWe will then play alone without the music. This ought to be good 🙂\n\n\n\n\nRecommended to Bring: \n\n\n\n\nYour acoustic instrument (please\, no electrics for this session unless it’s a bass guitar)\n\n\n\nGuitarist\, please bring a capo! (the sheet music is designed to be easy to play using a capo)\n\n\n\nYour enthusiasm and a good sense of humour\, this ain’t Canadian Idol\, we’re here to have fun!\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll project the song lyrics and chords on a large screen (no need to print). Cajon\, Keyboard and microphones will be available to share. Bass players\, please send us a message so we can accommodate a spot on the sound board. \n\n\n\nNote: Pour Boy is not an accessible venue as the music jam is located on the second floor and there is no elevator at this venue.
