DESCRIPTION:Looking for a fun\, queer chat with people your age? Want to just hang out\, eat some snacks and meet new friends? Are you interested in having some discussions about sexuality\, identity\, homophobia and your personal experience? YSB is proud to offer Spectrum\, a program for 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Ottawa! \n\n\n\nJoin Spectrum on Instagram \n\n\n\nSpectrum meets every Thursday from 5-7 p.m. upstairs at our 147 Besserer St location. \n\n\n\nHow to access the program\n\n\n\nWe provide workshops\, discussion groups\, and art collaborations\, as well as counselling services\, peer mentoring\, and primary care resources. \n\n\n\nSpectrum can help with challenges like depression\, anxiety and suicide while also offering practical support to navigate the mental health\, housing and educational systems. \n\n\n\nSpectrum is also a safe space for youth to: \n\n\n\n\nMeet new people\n\n\n\nEngage in workshops and discussions\n\n\n\nAccess services like showers\, laundry\, computers\, telephones\n\n\n\nGet referrals\n\n\n\nAccess trained counsellors and peer mentors if youth need to talk\n\n\n\nJust hang out!\n\n\n\n\nActivities include: \n\n\n\n\nAn introduction to our space and expectations\n\n\n\nA queer current events discussion\n\n\n\nActivities\n\n\n\nAccess to snack during group\, showers\, laundry\, harm reduction supplies\, telephone\, internet\n\n\n\nAccess to crisis counsellors from YSB and/or our in-house counsellor from Centretown Community Health Centre\n\n\n\nA relaxed space where youth can be out and proud!\n\n\n\n\nContact: Kate PoirierEmail: kpoirier@ysb.ca

DESCRIPTION:This month\, we’re continuing our conversations about healthy masculinity for transmasculine people\, with a specific focus on racialized experiences. \n\n\n\nWe’ll explore our experiences of gender\, transitioning\, and building community.We will guide folks through a zine-making activity to reflect on our relationships with our “pre-trans” selves. \n\n\n\nAs a group\, we’re hoping to talk through things like male privilege\, fetishization\, emotional regulation\, our relationship to femininity\, and more. \n\n\n\nCraft supplies and light snacks will be provided! DESCRIPTION:Weekly\, all-ages\, fibre arts meetup open to all skill levels. Bring your knitting\, crochet\, sewing\, quilting\, felting — whatever you’re working on\, and create in community while enjoying a cuppa or a tasty treat. \n\n\n\nThere are ramps on either end of our strip mall’s sidewalk for wheelchairs\, walkers\, and strollers to access the front door. It’s awkward and not perfect\, but it works! Cafe is all one level. washroom has an extra wide door and grab bars to facilitate transfers. All of our furniture is rated for a minimum of 250 lbs with some chairs rated for 500 lbs. The space is well lit with warm-toned overhead lamps. Background music plays at a low volume. Our doors are all manual\, not automated.  \n\n\n\nGluten free\, vegan\, and refined sugar-free options are available for food and drink. \n\n\n\nCafé Bon Vivant is a queer-owned business. The facilitator for Coffee and Crochet is also a member of the queer community. This event is free and open to everyone.

If you’re compelled by the marketing\, it’s for you. ❤️‍🔥 \n\n\n\nFIRST HALF: Get a drink and settle into a guided meditation and creative writing session. We are regulating so we can access our erotic creative energyyyy! \n\n\n\nSECOND HALF: Enjoy the hot\, wet\, juicy\, fruits of our labour with some live smut reading. \n\n\n\nBring your own journals\, pens\, etc. I will have some supplies too if you’d like. \n\n\n\nWant to read smut you’ve written outside of the event? No problem. Bring it with you. \n\n\n\nYou will NOT be put on the spot. Choosing to read is entirely optional. \n\n\n\nSigning up to read will be first come first serve in person at the event. \n\n\n\nRelaxed. Erotic. Creative. \n\n\n\nAccessibility\n\n\n\nThere is a 2 step stoop at the front entrance\, but our back entrance is at street level with only a 1.5 inch lip to get into the space. The main bathroom is in the basement which is 10 steps down. We do however have a small secondary washroom in our kitchen space across the driveway that can be accessed by key. This has a 4 inch lip at the entrance and is not necessarily comfortably wheelchair accessible in terms of space but may be useful for individuals who have other mobility issues that prevent them from using the stairs.
