The module connects gender expression to other intersectional factors of identity. Gender Expression Fundamentals concludes with three small action items and a discussion of “personal inventory” as preparation for engaging in allyship.There will also be time for Q&A.

Are you interested in having some discussions about sexuality\, identity\, homophobia and your personal experience? YSB is proud to offer Spectrum\, a program for 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Ottawa! \n\n\n\nJoin Spectrum on Instagram \n\n\n\nSpectrum meets every Thursday from 5-7 p.m. upstairs at our 147 Besserer St location. \n\n\n\nHow to access the program\n\n\n\nWe provide workshops\, discussion groups\, and art collaborations\, as well as counselling services\, peer mentoring\, and primary care resources. \n\n\n\nSpectrum can help with challenges like depression\, anxiety and suicide while also offering practical support to navigate the mental health\, housing and educational systems. \n\n\n\nSpectrum is also a safe space for youth to: \n\n\n\n\nMeet new people\n\n\n\nEngage in workshops and discussions\n\n\n\nAccess services like showers\, laundry\, computers\, telephones\n\n\n\nGet referrals\n\n\n\nAccess trained counsellors and peer mentors if youth need to talk\n\n\n\nJust hang out!\n\n\n\n\nActivities include: \n\n\n\n\nAn introduction to our space and expectations\n\n\n\nA queer current events discussion\n\n\n\nActivities\n\n\n\nAccess to snack during group\, showers\, laundry\, harm reduction supplies\, telephone\, internet\n\n\n\nAccess to crisis counsellors from YSB and/or our in-house counsellor from Centretown Community Health Centre\n\n\n\nA relaxed space where youth can be out and proud!\n\n\n\n\nContact: Kate PoirierEmail: kpoirier@ysb.ca

DESCRIPTION:Weekly\, all-ages\, fibre arts meetup open to all skill levels. Bring your knitting\, crochet\, sewing\, quilting\, felting — whatever you’re working on\, and create in community while enjoying a cuppa or a tasty treat. \n\n\n\nThere are ramps on either end of our strip mall’s sidewalk for wheelchairs\, walkers\, and strollers to access the front door. It’s awkward and not perfect\, but it works! Cafe is all one level. washroom has an extra wide door and grab bars to facilitate transfers. All of our furniture is rated for a minimum of 250 lbs with some chairs rated for 500 lbs. The space is well lit with warm-toned overhead lamps. Background music plays at a low volume. Our doors are all manual\, not automated.  \n\n\n\nGluten free\, vegan\, and refined sugar-free options are available for food and drink. \n\n\n\nCafé Bon Vivant is a queer-owned business. The facilitator for Coffee and Crochet is also a member of the queer community. This event is free and open to everyone.

DESCRIPTION:Finally a space for anyone in Ottawa to practice their ballroom category and make connections with those who are already in the scene. \n\n\n\nBallroom is a vibrant\, underground subculture created by Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities—particularly transgender women and gay men—in Harlem\, New York\, during the late 20th century. \n\n\n\nThis session is open to all who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+. This is a free\, recurring event\, music and light snacks will be provided.We will be meeting at McNabb Community Center\, 180 Percy St\, Ottawa\, ON K1R 5P4\, in the Assembly Hall. It is wheelchair accessible with ramps\, automatic doors\, working elevators and large doors available. \n\n\n\nBallroom categories that will be worked imcludes\, Runway\, Face\, Performance (Vogue)\, Sex Sirene\, Body\, Commentator vs Commentator\, Best dressed and many more. \n\n\n\nThis sessions are open to 2SLGBTQIA+ folks with experience or no experience at all. Do a little research on ballroom and join us to build a community.
