SUMMARY:Love In A Dangerous Time
DESCRIPTION:This pop‐up exhibit by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights speaks to decades of human rights violations against 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians who wanted to serve their country and the brave activists who fought back. It is designed to educate and inspire Canadians to help create a future in which the rights of all 2SLGBTQI+ people are respected. \n\n\n\nFrom the 1950s to the 1990s\, the Government of Canada investigated\, harassed and expelled 2SLGBTQI+ members of the Canadian Armed Forces\, RCMP and federal public service during what came to be known as “the Purge.” Thousands of careers and lives were destroyed through this sweeping national policy\, which came to be known as the LGBT Purge. But 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians led political and legal campaigns to change the policy and ensure protection under Canadian human rights law. \n\n\n\nIn 2016\, Purge survivors launched a class action suit that resulted in a historic settlement in 2018. That large settlement established the LGBT Purge Fund\, which worked with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights to develop Love in a Dangerous Time. The aim is to raise awareness of this little‐known history and to inspire new generations to rise to today’s challenges. This travelling exhibit complements the Museum’s much larger exhibition\, Love in a Dangerous Time: Canada’s LGBT Purge\, which is open in Winnipeg until early 2026. \n\n\n\nWe invite you to explore some of the survivors’ compelling — yet harrowing — stories from July 14 to October 3\, 2025. Community event held October 1\, 2025 — RSVP to info@lgbtpurgefund.com.

SUMMARY:Land Love Liberation
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to LAND\, LOVE\, LIBERATION! Join us for a day of connection and land love. Let’s explore the intersections between land\, love\, and liberation ~ together. \n\n\n\nThis event is a space for sharing\, building community\, and embodying the free futures we desire. Come as you are\, ready to receive and play. We can’t wait to see you there! \n\n\n\nThis day invests in the brilliance and freedom of QTBIPOC (Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Colour and/or Queer/Trans BIPOC folks) to access wellness and care. LAND\, LOVE\, LIBERATION is a closed space. Please respect this!༄༄༄ \n\n\n\nWhat to expect\n\n\n\nThis is a full day of offerings outside! Come and go as you please. \n\n\n\nPeep our full agenda through the link below. \n\n\n\nLunch and desserts are is included in your ticket and will be served around 2:00 PM (Eastern Time) \n\n\n\nHydration stations available all day. There are 2 porta potties on-site \n\n\n\nSeating and tented (covered) areas will be available \n\n\n\nYou are encouraged to bring what you need for your own comfort including a blanket and/or your own yoga mat\, and a lawn chair for seating \n\n\n\nThis space is for us\, by us. We keep each other safe. \n\n\n\nPlease be mindful that we would advise against calling emergency aid (911) unless absolutley neccessary. A security guard is available on site all day. For your peace of mind\, a house is on-site and available in case of any emergencies. \n\n\n\n༄༄༄ \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nWe are relying on community support to help bring this gathering together. Community donation tickets are available at a reccommended sliding rate of $30-$77 (no questions asked). Thank you for your generosity and understanding\, as we aim to keep these offerings as accessible as possible for our community 🙂 \n\n\n\n\n$30 for low-cost ticket\n\n\n\n$44 for standard ticket\n\n\n\n$77 pay-it-forward ticket\n\n\n\n\n༄༄༄ \n\n\n\nKeep up to date with the most recent announcements via our Instagram page. \n\n\n\nFor any questions\, contact celestialhealing921@gmail.com \n\n\n\n༄༄༄ \n\n\n\nOur Why\n\n\n\nWhen we are connected to ourselves\, “Spirit” and the Earth\, this supports our capacity to better listen & care for the communities & ecosystems around us. This day supports a reclaiming of our capacity to be healthy and well connected to our ancestral practices\, non-appropriative\, guided by embodied joy and connction. For folks from the Global Majority\, taking up space for LOVE & JOY is radical! \n\n\n\nWe believe our healing is not separate from the land’s healing since many of our communities are healing from the same intersecting systems of harm (i.e. capitalism\, patriarchy\, white supremacy) causing disconnection. When we remember and listen to the land in our community work (globally and locally)\, collective healing and liberation is made possible\, for both the lands and the people within communities. \n\n\n\n༄༄༄ \n\n\n\nOur Values\n\n\n\nArriving with an open heart \n\n\n\nCome as you are (all of you is welcome) \n\n\n\n0 Anti-Blackness / Racism. We prioritize and center Black and Indigenous kinship and care. Discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated \n\n\n\n0 Transphobia / Homophobia. We respect and embrace how we show up and embody gender\, sexuality and queerness \n\n\n\nWe keep each other safe. 0 cops\, lean on community & the organizers of this space \n\n\n\nWe honour consent. Ask\, check-in\, honour no’s! \n\n\n\nAncestral joy is our birthright. We take up space as we need to throughout the day \n\n\n\nEarth-love. We respect and have reverence for the Indigenous lands we are on \n\n\n\nStay hydrated \n\n\n\nCommunicate openly about your needs\, feedback\, or concerns \n\n\n\nRespect for lineages and cultures \n\n\n\nReciprocity. Encouraging everyone to pay it forward \n\n\n\nFree Palestine \n\n\n\n༄༄༄ \n\n\n\nThank you to The BIPOC Fellowship and Trent University for providing funds to make this event happen! \n\n\n\nIf you would like to support this gathering\, especially as a white community member\, please send an e-transfer to celeste.alcena@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Munro Beattie Lecture with Ivan Coyote
DESCRIPTION:The Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of English Language and Literature invite you to join us for the 2025-2026 Munro Beattie Lecture\, “And Then This One Time: Sweet Stories for Hard Times”. Because sometimes we all just need a good crylaugh. Join writer and storyteller Ivan Coyote for a round of storytelling to call upon the joy in our queer lives and celebrate the strength and bravery it takes to live real life as a trans person right now. Bring your best hankie. \n\n\n\nIt will take place at 7pm on October 15 at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre. No registration is required. \n\n\n\nIvan Coyote is a writer and storyteller. Born and raised in Whitehorse\, Yukon\, they are the author of thirteen books\, the creator of four films\, six stage shows\, and three albums that combine storytelling with music. Coyote’s books have won the ReLit Award\, been named a Stonewall Honour Book\, been longlisted for Canada Reads\, and been shortlisted for the Hilary Weston Prize for non-fiction and the Governor General’s award for non-fiction twice. In 2017 Ivan was given an honorary Doctor of Laws from Simon Fraser University\, and in 2023 they received the first Honorary Doctor of Arts ever bestowed on anyone by Yukon University. They have toured public schools solo around the world for 20 years now\, using the power of a personal story to fight bullying and make schools safer for students\, staff and parents. Ivan has spent more than 30 years on the road as an international touring storyteller and musician. Coyote’s stories grapple with the complex and intensely personal topics of gender identity\, family\, class\, and queer liberation\, but always with a generous heart\, and a quick wit. Ivan’s stories manage to handle both the hilarious and the heartbreaking with reverence and compassion\, and remind us all of our own fallible and imperfect humanity\, while at the same time inspiring us to change the world. Ivan’s 13th book\, Care Of\, was released in June 2021 by McClelland and Stewart.
