SUMMARY:Tea for Tara: Episode 3
DESCRIPTION:Our next segment of Tea for Tara episode 3 “Finding Yourself Through Art” features special guest speaker\, Barley Burns in conversation with facilitator Kiran Niet! \n\n\n\nJoin us for a limited spot in our live audience at the Ottawa Trans Library\, by registering on Eventbrite\, link in comments. \n\n\n\nOr watch over live-stream on the Ottawa Trans Library Facebook\, Instagram and Youtube Channels\, or Elaina Martin Facebook page. \n\n\n\nBarley Burns (they/she/he) is an Ottawa born artist\, entrepreneur and journalist. They are the owner of Fairy Cowboy Tours\, a drag-artist led walking tour company focused on sharing the queer history of Ottawa. Barley performs across the country as a theatre and drag artist\, known for their drag king persona Morgan Mercury. They have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs and Policy Management\, Development Policy from Carleton University\, and are completing a Bachelor of Journalism at the University of King’s College in Halifax\, Nova Scotia. \n\n\n\nKiran Niet is an artist who can’t pick a medium\, an event host\, a zinester\, and an accidental academic. Above all\, he is fascinated with community-building and storytelling\, whether through research\, art\, or organizing. As a volunteer at the Ottawa Trans Library\, he curates events centering queer and trans community. In his free time\, Kiran recklessly consumes unhealthy amounts of queer theory and sings in a choir. He can often be found tabling at art markets with his friends. He is about to graduate from Carleton University with a Bachelor’s degree in Global and International Studies\, specializing in Communications. \n\n\n\nThank you Canada Council for the Arts for supporting this important Trans Community Initiative. \n\n\n\n“Tea for Tara” is a monthly storytelling program for the Trans\, and Non-binary community to share\, and witness Trans Stories and history all archived for future generations\, including networking and mentorship.

SUMMARY:My History of Lesbian Activism
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful and thought-provoking evening with Marie Robertson\, one of Canada’s most influential voices in the history of LGBTQ+ advocacy. With more than five decades of activism\, Marie will share her personal journey through the evolution of LGBTQ+ rights in Canada\, offering a candid and compelling perspective on the challenges\, milestones\, and defining moments that have shaped the movement. \n\n\n\nThis third session of Echoes in Pride is more than a presentation. It is a reflection on identity\, resilience\, and the power of community. Through lived experience\, Marie brings history into the present\, creating space for dialogue\, understanding\, and continued progress. \n\n\n\nThis is an opportunity to engage directly with a voice that has helped shape Canada’s social fabric. \n\n\n\nBe part of the conversation. Be part of the legacy. \n\n\n\nSPEAKER BIO – Marie Robertson\n\n\n\nMarie Robertson is an outspoken “lipstick lesbian” and a community activist with more than 55 years of leadership within Canada’s LGBTQ+ movement. Widely recognized as a pioneer of gay liberation in Canada and often referred to as Ontario’s first lady of queer liberation\, her impact has been both profound and enduring. \n\n\n\nIn 1994\, she received the Canadian Lambda Award for Excellence in Human Rights in a special ceremony in Ottawa. In 2002\, her portrait was inducted into the National Portrait Collection of the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives in recognition of her contributions to the community. She was later inducted into the Q Hall of Fame in 2013\, and her portrait is also featured in the Village Legacy Project at Ottawa City Hall. \n\n\n\nMarie has dedicated nearly 40 years to working as a counsellor\, facilitator\, and trainer within the LGBTQ+ community. Her work continues to support individuals\, strengthen communities\, and advance inclusion\, with no plans to slow down.

SUMMARY:Transform Gender Collective (TGC) Monthly Meetings
DESCRIPTION:Transform Gender Collective (TGC) is a support and discussion group for transmasculine and masculine-of-center Black\, indigenous\, and people of color (BIPOC) to learn about transformative justice\, unlearn toxic gendered behaviors\, and imagine what masculinity could look like outside of the gender binary. \n\n\n\nDuring our virtual meetings\, we will dive deep into the framework of transformative justice (TJ) and how we can apply it to our everyday lives\, create a community of support for one another\, and share our personal stories of coming into our genders. Our ultimate goal is to move the group towards a closed community accountability space where we can practice robust transformative justice as we heal and grow in our masculinities together. \n\n\n\nTGC is open to any Black\, Indigenous\, and/or person of color (BIPOC) who identifies as transmasculine or masculine-of-center\, regardless of gender identity. \n\n\n\nWe ask that white-passing BIPOC reflect on their privilege and the way they are racialized. At TGC\, we discuss our gendered experiences as people that are racialized as Black or brown in the world. Please choose whether to attend our meetings based on these reflections. \n\n\n\nOur virtual monthly meetings are held over Zoom and take place on the last Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8PM EST.
