DESCRIPTION:Join us for a (hybrid) workshop at Venus Envy! \nLet’s talk about the queer identity category that leaves so many terrified to murmur its name: bisexual! This engaging and interactive workshop engages audiences who are both familiar and less-than-familiar with bisexuality. DESCRIPTION:Carleton University’s Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of English Language and Literature invite you to join us for the 2024-2025 Munro Beattie Lecture\, “Imps and Imposters: Where Do Stories Come From”\, with author\, actor\, and playwright\, Ann-Marie MacDonald. \n\n\n\nAnn-Marie MacDonald is a queer novelist\, playwright\, actor\, and broadcast host.  Her work has been honoured with numerous awards\, including the Chalmers\, the Governor General’s\, Gemini\, Dora Mavor Moore\, John Drainie\, the Gascon-Thomas\, the Canadian Authors Association\, the Canadian Booksellers Association\, and the Commonwealth Prize.  Her writing for the stage includes the plays\, Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning\, Juliet)\, Belle Moral:  A Natural History\, and Hamlet-911; the libretto for the chamber opera\, Nigredo Hotel\, and book and lyrics for Anything That Moves; her novels are Fall On Your Knees\, The Way the Crow Flies\, Adult Onset\, and Fayne.  Ann-Marie graduated from the Acting Program of The National Theatre School of Canada in 1980.  In 2019 she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.  She is married to theatre director\, Alisa Palmer\, with whom she has two children.

SUMMARY:ElderQueers (2SLGBTQIA+) Storytelling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A six-week in-person workshop   \n\n\n\nWant to tell your story? Or a story? What story have you always wanted to tell?  \n\n\n\nAs Elders in the queer community\, your stories are important to be shared\, to be heard\, and to be remembered.  \n\n\n\nThis Winter/Spring session is open to folks who have never written a story and to those who have. If you have attended one of Mary Ellen’s workshops before\, you are welcome to come back and develop your storytelling skills. Mary Ellen has over thirty years of experience creating work for the stage and collaborating with people of all ages. \n\n\n\nDuring this six-week workshop\, participants will meet once a week for two hours to learn basic skills to create and tell their story. Stories can be serious or comic or a blend of both. Participants may use movement\, puppets\, music – however you want to tell your story – are all welcome! \n\n\n\nThis workshop offers an opportunity to gather\, deepen your community connections\, and create stories with the support of each other. The focus is on having FUN\, learning some new skills\, and connecting with each other. \n\n\n\nFamily and friends are invited to the final session to hear the participant’s stories. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is held in English. The registration fee gives you access to all 6 workshop sessions from February 22 to March 29\, 2025.
