DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a unique and interactive opportunity to do a partial playthrough and Q&A of Known Mysteries. The first Solar Server solar-powered indie game. This event will be hosted by Kara Stone (creator of Solar Server and Known Mysteries visiting all the way from Calgary) and PARTYGIRL (voice of Sorrow\, lead). \n\n\n\nTrailer available here! \n\n\n\nKnown Mysteries is a lo-fi climate fable about the desire to escape Earth. A deduction game set in a near-future Canada held captive by massive oil companies. The player guides Sorrow through the mysteries she uncovers upon her return to her hometown after the death of her mothers. \n\n\n\nSolar Server is an autonomous solar powered web server run from Kara Stone’s apartment balcony in Calgary\, Alberta\, Canada. It will host a series of videogames designed to be low-carbon and have environmental themes in the games. Read articles about Solar Server in The Guardian\, Tech Radar\, and CNET. \n\n\n\nKara Stone is an artist and scholar making work about psychosocial disability\, sexuality\, and the environment. She works in different media but most often in interactive art and experimental videogames. Her artwork has been featured in The Atlantic\, Wired\, and VICE\, and exhibited at Athens Digital Art Festival in Greece\, Vector Game Art Festival in Toronto\, Canada and a solo exhibition at Babycastles in New York City\, USA. New to your DJ journey or open to learn a new skill? \n\n\n\nWe’re hosting an intro-level DJ Basics workshop on Sunday\, June 8\, 2025 from 1PM-6PM! Come through to the Chnge Mker Innovation Hub\, located at 44 ByWard Market Square. \n\n\n\nThis workshop covers all things DJ Basics\, including a brief history of the craft\, software & hardware options\, mixing techniques and 1-on-1 support anyone beginning or along in their DJ journey. All levels are welcome and no previous experience is needed. You’ll have plenty of time to practice on the equipment\, which includes multiple DDJ-REV 1s and a DJControl Inpulse 500. DESCRIPTION:Instructions for the murder mystery will be given upon entry. Cocktail attire suggested. \n\n\n\nAbout Loch Nisse Monster: \n\n\n\nLoch Nisse Monster rose from the swamps of an Ottawa 70’s-themed house party\, where in a haze the musician was told that her name sounded like the famous monster of Loch Ness. Nisse brings the folky vibe of this mysterious creature to the music\, telling stories and painting emotions. Along with inspiration from the genres of rock\, pop\, and punk\, the “monster” in Loch Nisse Monster doesn’t hesitate to get at ironic and unjust truths. Yet\, with the hope of tales\, Loch Nisse Monster longs to share her music and express things in ways that haven’t been before with the desire to make people feel seen through her song. \n\n\n\nLoch Nisse plays solo\, in ensemble\, or with her trusty band\, who are featured on all recordings to date: Laetitia Lemieux on lead guitar\, Griffin Nguyen on bass\, Chloe Martin on drums\, and Robyn Lichaa on the fiddle. \n\n\n\nAbout hannah vig: \n\n\n\nSince her onstage debut in 2022\, Hannah Vig has been making waves in Ottawa’s music scene. Releasing a debut single and E.P. in 2023 and winning OMIC’s Capital Music Award for Newcomer of the Year in 2024\, Vig has made a name for herself as Ottaw’s sensitive\, sapphic\, singer-songwriter. Originally known for intimate and emotive acoustic performances\, Vig has been joined by a backing band since August 2023. Bringing her rock influences to the fore\, Vig’s soulful voice soars on songs evoking the likes of Boygenius and Olivia Rodrigo. Currently consisting of Eric Montpool (lead guitar)\, Matthew Scharfe (bass)\, and Brendan Vandepol (drums)\, the band adds an exciting energy to her already dynamic sound and hard-hitting lyrics. \n\n\n\nAbout Annie Martel: \n\n\n\nAnnie Martel is a Canadian singer-songwriter and one of Ottawa’s jewels. Martel’s sincere\, contemplative songs are anointed by her unequivocal voice and thoughtful musical style. She has a special way of engaging with complex human themes through her music\, finding healing and release in the magic of songwriting and offering listeners the same opportunity. Annie will be accompanied by her local star-studded band\, whose lush arrangements and skillful sounds elevate each song with poise (& a little bit of rock n’ roll). Having been part of the local music scene for nearly a decade\, Annie is looking forward to ~finally~ releasing her debut album in the coming months – stay tuned! \n\n\n\nMore about Forensis\, the album: \n\n\n\nForensis\, Loch Nisse Monster’s debut album\, is a concept record based around the idea of a murder investigation as a metaphor for a breakup. Forensis is the Latin word for “the forum” or “public affairs\,” but also connects to forensic psychology on a crime scene\, or alternatively\, becomes a representation of the broader uncovering of the truth. The record brings out the following themes relating to the Forensis concept: reluctance of falling in love\, expectations in love\, stages of grief and reckoning in heartbreak\, estrangement\, womanhood and fame\, coming of age\, and existentialism.

DESCRIPTION:🔆 It’s spring and we’re thinking patios! Dance party and patio hangs @ottawabikecafe on June 20th – @djdelpilar on the decks\, 7-10 pm. Guest performances by @theresagrahamstudio! \n\n\n\nThe Ottawa Bike Cafe is a physically accessible space with lots of room\, high ceilings\, a powerful HVAC system and a sweet patio. The cafe serves a wide variety of non-alcoholic beverages alongside alcoholic drinks and food. Eating and drinking on the patio\, please.😷KN95 or equivalent masks are required indoors and optional outdoors. Some N95s (overhead straps) will be available at the door for free. The staff may be wearing surgical masks\, but will be offered N95s (TBD).😷 More covid-safer info: Two air purifiers and the HVAC system will be running all night. We will have a CO2 monitor on the DJ table where anyone can check the levels anytime.🎟 Tickets are by donation; the suggested donation is $20 but starts at $0. We want to reduce financial barriers by making tickets truly pay what you can! If paying more isn’t a burden for you\, we welcome the support! \n\n\n\nWhat to Expect? \n\n\n\nInside: Dance party with DJ del Pilar and an activities table (coloring\, etc) for those who want to hear the music but not into dancing all the time. DESCRIPTION:The annual Dragon Boat Festival is back at Mooney’s Bay for another great weekend! Come by and cheer on this year’s queer teams representing queer organizations like the Ottawa Senior Pride Network and the YSB: the Vintage Queers and DRAGon Boats are scheduled to paddle away Saturday at 9:10AM with the rest of their races being determined by performance.  \n\n\n\nRACE FORMAT: \n\n\n\nAll teams are guaranteed two 500m races on Saturday. \n\n\n\nTop teams will advance to Sunday to compete in three additional races. Here is the summary of the number of teams advancing in each division: \n\n\n\n\nWomen: 32 teams\n\n\n\nMixed: 75 teams\n\n\n\nOpen: 16 teams\n\n\n\n\nAWARDS:\n\n\n\n\nSaturday Challenge Cup Awards: First place teams in the various Challenge Cup categories will receive individual medals and a large team trophy.\n\n\n\nTeam Site\, Team T-Shirt and Team Spirit Awards will be presented on Saturday.\n\n\n\nSunday 500m Awards: Top three teams in each division will be awarded medals. The top team in each division is presented with the Cup trophy.\n\n\n\nSunday 100m and 200m Awards: Top three teams in each division are awarded a team trophy.\n\n\n\n\nSPECIAL RACES:\n\n\n\n\nThe Charity Challenge Cup Races: Top fundraising teams face-off in Mixed\, Open and Women’s divisions.\n\n\n\nBreast Cancer Paddlers Race:  Breast Cancer Paddlers teams compete in a ceremonial race at mid-day on Saturday. Immediately following the race\, a traditional Flower Ceremony will be held on the beach to provide a moment to remember and honour those who have been lost to breast cancer\, and those who are still fighting.\n\n\n\n\nSPECIAL AWARDS:\n\n\n\nBest T-shirt Design: Awarded to the team with the most creative t-shirt.  \n\n\n\nBest Team Site Design: Awarded to the team with the most colourful and creatively decorated team site. \n\n\n\nTeam Spirit: Awarded to the team demonstrating the best overall team spirit! \n\n\n\nRookie Team Spirit: Awarded to the rookie team bringing lots of spirit in their first year!
