DESCRIPTION:We’re kicking off Pride month with an afternoon party at @TheGrove featuring @djdelpilar! Expect high-energy dance tracks and all your fave queers! \n\n\n\nTea dances were events organized on Sunday afternoons in the US gay community\, originating in New York in the 1950s and 1960s. The original dances included tea services rather than alcohol as it was illegal to serve alcohol to queer and trans people. To lower the chances of a police raid\, these dances were held on Sunday afternoons and served non-alcoholic drinks. \n\n\n\nGet fancy and dance with cuties! Tea dances were one of the only places where people could express themselves\, so we fully encourage outfits! \n\n\n\nHighlights \n\n\n\n\nThis event centers people who are queer and/or trans who take covid precautions in their everyday lives. Allies who take covid precautions are also welcome but please be mindful that this is primarily a space for queer and/or trans folks. We also welcome 2SLGBTQIA+ folks who are interested in a sober-friendly space and who will respect the covid-safer protocols of this event!\n\n\n\nMask mandatory event (KN95 or better). Masks are provided at the door and required before entry\n\n\n\nThis is a substance-free and sober-friendly event. Guests are welcome to consume before or after the event\, but please be mindful of intoxication levels.\n\n\n\nSliding scale tickets.\n\n\n\nThe canteen is open for non-alcoholic beverages. Influenced by post-punk\, egg punk and krautrock\, TVOD effortlessly weave musical genres in a way that comes off seamlessly. “More than anything\, their sound is engineered to make you move” (Creem Magazine). The brainchild of singer-songwriter Tyler Wright\, the project draws from personal and external inspirations like the nightlife/music scene\, heartaches\, World War II\, the untimely death of a beloved pet fish\, and so on. TVOD’s vivid storytelling paints a gritty tongue-in-cheek picture of being a D.I.Y. artist grinding it out in NYC\, complete with fabled tales about the degenerate lifestyle and all the good and the bad that comes with it. \n\n\n\nCDSM (Atlanta\, GA) \n\n\n\nCSDM a.k.a. Celebrity Death Slot Machine is a “freakout post-punk group” (FLOOD Magazine) based in Atlanta\, GA. Their stylish sonic onslaught is anchored around dancey rhythms\, atypical synthesizer work\, timely saxophone growls\, as well as goth rock-esque melodies that serve to recount bizarre humor-laden tales from a derelict parallel universe. Originally known for intimate and emotive acoustic performances\, Vig has been joined by a backing band since August 2023. Bringing her rock influences to the fore\, Vig’s soulful voice soars on songs evoking the likes of Boygenius and Olivia Rodrigo. Currently consisting of Eric Montpool (lead guitar)\, Matthew Scharfe (bass)\, and Brendan Vandepol (drums)\, the band adds an exciting energy to her already dynamic sound and hard-hitting lyrics. \n\n\n\nSalmon Ella is a result of the 2017 Girls+ Rock Ottawa’s Rock Camp for Women+. Since that June weekend\, Cynthia\, Delta\, Hannah\, and Katie have been writing music with quirky melodies and uncomfortably honest lyrics to get to the heart of their experiences. Influenced by Warpaint\, Bikini Kill\, Courtney Barnett\, and Fiona Apple\, they played their first show in October 2018 and are quickly making a mark on the Ottawa music scene. Sometimes absurd\, sometimes ethereal\, their music will have you saying “I don’t know what I just listened to\, but I think I liked it!”. \n\n\n\nDark Room is a 3-piece indie/alternative rock band with Middle Eastern and North African roots. Recently formed in Ottawa\, the band features Alya on lead vocals\, Raph on guitar\, and Zanou on drums. With each member bringing their style to the mix\, they take inspiration from artists like Arctic Monkeys\, Towa Bird\, and Briston Maroney. DESCRIPTION:The annual Dragon Boat Festival is back at Mooney’s Bay for another great weekend! Come by and cheer on this year’s queer teams representing queer organizations like the Ottawa Senior Pride Network and the YSB: the Vintage Queers and DRAGon Boats are scheduled to paddle away Saturday at 9:10AM with the rest of their races being determined by performance.  \n\n\n\nRACE FORMAT: \n\n\n\nAll teams are guaranteed two 500m races on Saturday. \n\n\n\nTop teams will advance to Sunday to compete in three additional races. Here is the summary of the number of teams advancing in each division: \n\n\n\n\nWomen: 32 teams\n\n\n\nMixed: 75 teams\n\n\n\nOpen: 16 teams\n\n\n\n\nAWARDS:\n\n\n\n\nSaturday Challenge Cup Awards: First place teams in the various Challenge Cup categories will receive individual medals and a large team trophy.\n\n\n\nTeam Site\, Team T-Shirt and Team Spirit Awards will be presented on Saturday.\n\n\n\nSunday 500m Awards: Top three teams in each division will be awarded medals. The top team in each division is presented with the Cup trophy.\n\n\n\nSunday 100m and 200m Awards: Top three teams in each division are awarded a team trophy.\n\n\n\n\nSPECIAL RACES:\n\n\n\n\nThe Charity Challenge Cup Races: Top fundraising teams face-off in Mixed\, Open and Women’s divisions.\n\n\n\nBreast Cancer Paddlers Race:  Breast Cancer Paddlers teams compete in a ceremonial race at mid-day on Saturday.
