Masks are optional. \n\n\n\nWe are an accessible building with elevators\, and accessible and gender neutral washrooms. SUMMARY:World AIDS Day 2024: HIV Futures
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special screening and discussion to mark World AIDS Day. Our film program will be a series of short films\, titled Viral Interventions. The six new short films from Nepal\, Bulgaria\, Brazil\, Ecuador\, and Canada tell urgent and extraordinary stories about living with HIV today. The techniques are as diverse as their makers: from lush animation and staged floral portraits\, to radical sex performances and hybrid documentary mash-ups. Their voices are equally unforgettable\, brimming with laughter\, tears\, fury\, and joyful activism. Together\, they explore autobiographical stories from around the globe about this pandemic\, which still claims more than half a million lives every year. \n\n\n\nViral Interventions is a York University research-creation project led by John Greyson and Sarah Flicker that\, since 2020\, has commissioned artists\, activists\, and scholars to collaborate on making new films about living with HIV today. The world premiere of these films will be presented in collaboration with TIFF in Toronto on Saturday\, November 30\, and we are honoured to be able to bring these to our community in Ottawa.  \n\n\n\nFollowing the films\, we will have a performance and fireside chat about the future of HIV with artist and performer BOA\, from Canada’s Drag Race.

SUMMARY:Community Mpox Vaccine Clinic
DESCRIPTION:MAX is working with Ottawa Public Health to host pop-up community immunization clinics for mpox. The clinics are open to members of our community who meet the eligibility criteria and who have not had two doses of the vaccine yet. Please take a minute to review the criteria (below) before booking an appointment. \n\n\n\nWho can receive the Imvamune® vaccine for protection before an exposure to the mpox virus? \n\n\n\nAnyone who received one dose of the Imvamune® mpox vaccine can now receive a second dose at least 28 days after receiving their first dose. This includes individuals who received the vaccine for protection before or after an exposure to the mpox virus.  \n\n\n\nBased on the Ontario Ministry of Health guidelines\, the following groups are eligible for a 2-dose series of the Imvamune® vaccine for protection. \n\n\n\na) Two-spirited\, non-binary\, transgender\, cisgender\, intersex\, or gender-queer individuals who self-identify or have sexual partners who self-identify as belonging to the gay\, bisexual\, pansexual and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM)community AND at least one of the following: \n\n\n\n\nHad a confirmed sexually transmitted infection within the last year.\n\n\n\nHave or are planning to have two or more sexual partners or are in a relationship where at least one of the partners may have other sexual partners.\n\n\n\nHave attended venues for sexual contact (i.e.\, bath houses\, sex clubs) recently or may be planning to\, or who work/volunteer in these settings.\n\n\n\nHave had anonymous sex (e.g.\, using hookup apps) recently or may be planning to.\n\n\n\nAre a sexual contact of an individual who engages in sex work.\n\n\n\n\nb) Individuals who self-identify as engaging in sex work or are planning to\, regardless of self-identified sex or gender. \n\n\n\nc) Household and/or sexual contacts of those identified for pre-exposure vaccination eligibility in parts (a) and/or (b) above AND who are moderately to severely immunocompromised or pregnant may be considered for pre-exposure vaccination. K1 serves as a safe space by black queer folks\, for black queer folks\, giving us the opportunity to share our experiences and culture. With each K1 meeting we explore various aspects of life\, covering topics like Sex\, Friends & Family\, Education and Work.  \n\n\n\nWe embrace the complexity of blackness and how it is expressed with our end of year celebration called Black Queer Excellence (BQE) – A black queer party that celebrates our cultures and identities! DESCRIPTION:This month’s theme: Ready for it? Prepping for winter! \n\n\n\nA Hub for GBTQ+ Newcomers \n\n\n\nMoving to a new country can be exciting\, but also challenging – even more so for queer men\, non-binary folks and trans people. \n\n\n\nIt is a social and educational group for GBTQ+ newcomers. Queerspora hopes to provide some ease to GBTQ newcomers during their journey of trying to find their way in a new home and building trust and connections. The group also aims to equip newcomers with sexual health toolkits and knowledge that they can use in their everyday lives in Canada. \n\n\n\nTopics discussed include sexual health and wellness\, navigating hookup apps & cruising spaces. Activities will include visits to museums\, parks\, and more. Queerspora is an opportunity to get to know the city and familiarize yourself with the local queer scene and resources.
