SUMMARY:Afternoon Tea Dance
DESCRIPTION:We’re kicking off Pride month with an afternoon party at @TheGrove featuring @djdelpilar! Expect high-energy dance tracks and all your fave queers! \n\n\n\nTea dances were events organized on Sunday afternoons in the US gay community\, originating in New York in the 1950s and 1960s. The original dances included tea services rather than alcohol as it was illegal to serve alcohol to queer and trans people. To lower the chances of a police raid\, these dances were held on Sunday afternoons and served non-alcoholic drinks. \n\n\n\nGet fancy and dance with cuties! Tea dances were one of the only places where people could express themselves\, so we fully encourage outfits! \n\n\n\nHighlights \n\n\n\n\nThis event centers people who are queer and/or trans who take covid precautions in their everyday lives. Allies who take covid precautions are also welcome but please be mindful that this is primarily a space for queer and/or trans folks. We also welcome 2SLGBTQIA+ folks who are interested in a sober-friendly space and who will respect the covid-safer protocols of this event!\n\n\n\nMask mandatory event (KN95 or better). Masks are provided at the door and required before entry\n\n\n\nThis is a substance-free and sober-friendly event. Guests are welcome to consume before or after the event\, but please be mindful of intoxication levels.\n\n\n\nSliding scale tickets.\n\n\n\nThe canteen is open for non-alcoholic beverages. Please enjoy in the hall.\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details \n\n\n\nWhen: Sunday\, August 3 from 3-6 pm. \n\n\n\nWhere: The Grove Studio\, details below. \n\n\n\nAccessibility Details \n\n\n\n\nPlease avoid wearing anything scented.\n\n\n\nVarious kinds of seats are available\, see below.\n\n\n\nYou’re encouraged to bring your earplugs and some are available for free onsite.\n\n\n\nNo strobes/flashing lights\n\n\n\nThe building has an elevator.\n\n\n\nThe door to The Grove is not automatic.\n\n\n\n\nCOVID safety \n\n\n\n\nMasks mandatory: KN95 or better.\n\n\n\n3 air purifiers in use.\n\n\n\nA CO2 monitor is available and visible throughout the event.\n\n\n\nThe HVAC system will be in operation\, as well as 3 air purifiers. Our collective has since evolved into a safe and playful space of belonging\, experimentation and healing for Black and Black Queer youth (aged 18-30) in Ottawa\, offering resources\, hangout spaces\, connection and knowledge sharing opportunities. Pass the Vibes’ vision is to create experimental\, non-judgmental and Queer/Trans-safe spaces of belonging for Black youth to witness themselves and each other in creative expression. \n\n\n\nWe’d like to extend a big thank you to our funders\, Ontario Triullium Foundation\, for making these events possible! and thank you to our organizational mentor\, DARC – the Digital Arts Resource Centre for their ongoing support.

SUMMARY:Sane Inside Insanity - The Phenomenon of Rocky Horror
DESCRIPTION:Did you know the first time North American audiences ever laid eyes on The Rocky Horror Picture Show\, it happened right here in Ottawa? On August 15\, 1975\, the Canadian Film Institute (CFI) introduced audiences to an indie movie that would later become one of the world’s most legendary cult films. \n\n\n\nFifty years to the day\, join us for the premiere of a new documentary\, Sane Inside Insanity – The Phenomenon of Rocky Horror\, which uncovers the wild and incredible true story behind Rocky Horror’s rise and its status as a worldwide phenomenon. This lively and entertaining documentary offers a deep dive into the remarkable chapter of cinema history that began right here in Ottawa. \n\n\n\nRelive a legendary moment in cult movie history by celebrating Rocky Horror’s incredible legacy and the 90th Anniversary of the CFI. \n\n\n\nPlease note: This is a fundraiser event for the CFI; membership benefits do not apply to this screening. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSane Inside Insanity – The Phenomenon of Rocky Horror chronicles the evolution of this shaggy\, randy\, raucous drag musical\, from its controversial arrival on London’s independent theatre scene to its complex development as a screenplay to its glorious film version\, which had its North American premiere in Ottawa on August 15\, 1975. Featuring rare footage of early theatrical productions of the show\, interviews with cast members past and present (Tim Curry\, Richard O’Brien\, Barry Bostwick)\, and testimonials by fans who embraced and are still embracing the film\, this revealing documentary tells the amazing\, utterly unlikely story of how this movie became (and remains!) a worldwide pop culture sensation.
