Do you like gathering with community and meeting new people? Want a night that feels easy\, familiar\, and electric all at once? DESCRIPTION:Carleton University’s Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre is hosting a fundraiser event for their Gender Affirming Gear program\, which supports students in subsidizing the cost of gender affirming gear.  \n\n\n\nThe night is about displaying queer art – visual arts and performances! We can appreciate local student artists and come together to support the community.  \n\n\n\nAccessibility information: It is at Rooster’s cafe on the 4th floor of Nideyinan (on Carleton Campus)\, and there are two available elevators (one next to Ollie’s and Tim Hortons\, the other near the side entrance). There are single stall all gender washrooms right outside of the venue. No flashing lights\, no sudden noises. Volunteer available to guide people to less-stimulating area if overstimulated. Not a masked event.  \n\n\n\nFood: snacks will be available – details to be confirmed. May be cookies or sandwiches\, likely not gluten free.  \n\n\n\nNo age restrictions.

DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE SHOW\n\n\n\nA trans man and his idealized cis self greet onlookers and invite them to be their most authentic\, relaxed selves… or else. Through a ritual-like process—cake-decorating\, sharing stories of being seen exactly as they want to be\, interactive (and competitive) drawing exercises\, and question after question after question after question after question—the two make every painstaking effort to get it right this time. They collide. They write letters. They try to show each other what they see. They explain the physics of making a pad adhere to the sides of boxer shorts. Confetti falls. Cake flies. They interrogate the ever-changing distance between what is and what could be. They make a pretty big mess. And every time\, they try again.  \n\n\n\nABOUT UNDERCURRENTS\n\n\n\nFor over a decade\, Ottawa’s undercurrents festival has been showcasing some of the most innovative and thought-provoking works of art from local and national artists. The programming is diverse and always fresh\, featuring everything from experimental theatre to live music performances\, from solo shows to full productions. DESCRIPTION:For the first time in Ottawa\, Laylit takes over GRIDWRKS and ANNX for an unforgettable two-floor dance party.  \n\n\n\nLaylit is a platform and collective celebrating music and artists from the Arab/SWANA region and its diaspora. Over the last four years their dance parties in New York City and Montreal have carved out an unmatched place in North American nightlife\, becoming an anticipated social gathering and unique musical experience.  \n\n\n\nEach party takes you on a genre-spanning journey\, highlighting the incredible musical diversity\, depth and richness that comes out of the region. Laylit has established its place on the scene with a signature electronic sound blending shaabi\, dabke\, mahraganat\, Arabic pop and hip-hop with contemporary\, boundary pushing dance music (techno\, breakbeat\, hyperpop…) inspired by New York and Montreal’s thriving underground clubs. Featured in multiple publications including the New York Times and Pitchfork\, Laylit recently celebrated its 5-year anniversary with a tour across multiple North American cities. Laylit values inclusivity and unity across cultures\, languages\, dialects\, religions\, identity and sexual orientations.
