With more than five decades of activism\, Marie will share her personal journey through the evolution of LGBTQ+ rights in Canada\, offering a candid and compelling perspective on the challenges\, milestones\, and defining moments that have shaped the movement. \n\n\n\nThis third session of Echoes in Pride is more than a presentation. It is a reflection on identity\, resilience\, and the power of community. Through lived experience\, Marie brings history into the present\, creating space for dialogue\, understanding\, and continued progress. \n\n\n\nThis is an opportunity to engage directly with a voice that has helped shape Canada’s social fabric. \n\n\n\nBe part of the conversation. Be part of the legacy. \n\n\n\nSPEAKER BIO – Marie Robertson\n\n\n\nMarie Robertson is an outspoken “lipstick lesbian” and a community activist with more than 55 years of leadership within Canada’s LGBTQ+ movement. Widely recognized as a pioneer of gay liberation in Canada and often referred to as Ontario’s first lady of queer liberation\, her impact has been both profound and enduring. \n\n\n\nIn 1994\, she received the Canadian Lambda Award for Excellence in Human Rights in a special ceremony in Ottawa. In 2002\, her portrait was inducted into the National Portrait Collection of the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives in recognition of her contributions to the community. She was later inducted into the Q Hall of Fame in 2013\, and her portrait is also featured in the Village Legacy Project at Ottawa City Hall. \n\n\n\nMarie has dedicated nearly 40 years to working as a counsellor\, facilitator\, and trainer within the LGBTQ+ community. Her work continues to support individuals\, strengthen communities\, and advance inclusion\, with no plans to slow down.

DESCRIPTION:Nos corps portent des histoires — de transformation\, de survie\, de regard social\, mais aussi de plaisir\, de résistance et de réappropriation. \n\n\n\nPour plusieurs personnes noires\, queers et trans\, la relation au corps peut être complexe\, façonnée par des normes extérieures\, des expériences de marginalisation\, mais aussi par des moments puissants d’affirmation et d’euphorie. \n\n\n\nCe K1 propose un espace sécuritaire et confidentiel pour explorer ces réalités à travers trois axes principaux : \n\n\n\n\nL’image corporelle et l’estime de soi : comprendre comment nous percevons nos corps et comment ces perceptions se construisent\n\n\n\nGenre et perception du corps : aborder la dysphorie\, l’euphorie de genre et l’impact de l’identité sur notre rapport au corps\n\n\n\nSoins de soi et reconnexion : identifier des pratiques accessibles pour prendre soin de soi de manière douce et réaliste\n\n\n\n\nLa session combinera discussions de groupe\, exercices réflexifs et activités interactives pour favoriser le partage\, la bienveillance et la reconnexion à soi. Vous aurez l’occasion de réfléchir à vos propres expériences\, d’entendre celles des autres\, et de repartir avec des outils concrets pour soutenir votre bien-être. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNotes sur l’accessibilité\n\n\n\n\nNotre immeuble dispose de trois ascenseurs et notre bureau est entièrement accessible aux personnes utilisant un fauteuil roulant. Une salle de bain neutre et accessible en fauteuil roulant se trouve juste à l’extérieur de notre bureau. Group size TBD!  \n\n\n\nAdditional information:  \n\n\n\n\nPWO has a new “pay it forward” initiative\, that folks are welcome to access and/or contribute to. \n\n\n\nMost of the machines at Lowertown are on the ground level. A few are downstairs. Please inform a TD if you need to stick to the ground floor. \n\n\n\nLowertown has one gender neutral & accessible washroom on the ground floor. The door must be opened manually (no automatic door). \n\n\n\nWhen in the lower level room\, feel free to close the sliding door to avoid disruptions from curious patrons. The lower level is not as closely monitored by bar staff as the ground floor.
