SUMMARY:Intimacy At End Of Life
DESCRIPTION:Queer Death Salon is a virtual community space for all 2SLGBTQIA+ people to come together to discuss death\, dying and grief. It is a facilitated drop-in discussion space\, with the purpose of building connection\, skill\, and resources for 2SLGBTQIA+ people navigating end of life in our personal lives and in our communities. \n\n\n\nMedical interventions\, hypersensitivities\, decreased capacity for verbal communication\, and pain can all contribute to a sense of isolation for both the dying and those attending to them. A dying person may experience an aversion to touch\, cognitive changes\, unclear capacity for consent\, and even expressions of unexpected sexuality. The challenge of a partner or family member’s transition into a caregiving role often goes unacknowledged. \n\n\n\nWith tenderness and curiosity\, we will reflect on our own experience\, boundaries and values\, and build more skill to confidently navigate the challenges of intimacy at the end of life\, so that we can receive its gifts. \n\n\n\nVanessa Carlisle\, PhD (they/them) is a graduate of the Going With Grace death doula training program and certified by the National End of Life Doula Association. Vanessa brings experience with in-home caregiving\, DWD/EOLD\, navigating hospital and hospice services\, dementia care\, and the complex family/community dynamics that arise with deaths due to violence\, suicide\, and overdose.

SUMMARY:Transform Gender Collective (TGC) Monthly Meetings
DESCRIPTION:Transform Gender Collective (TGC) is a support and discussion group for transmasculine and masculine-of-center Black\, indigenous\, and people of color (BIPOC) to learn about transformative justice\, unlearn toxic gendered behaviors\, and imagine what masculinity could look like outside of the gender binary. \n\n\n\nDuring our virtual meetings\, we will dive deep into the framework of transformative justice (TJ) and how we can apply it to our everyday lives\, create a community of support for one another\, and share our personal stories of coming into our genders. Our ultimate goal is to move the group towards a closed community accountability space where we can practice robust transformative justice as we heal and grow in our masculinities together. \n\n\n\nTGC is open to any Black\, Indigenous\, and/or person of color (BIPOC) who identifies as transmasculine or masculine-of-center\, regardless of gender identity. \n\n\n\nWe ask that white-passing BIPOC reflect on their privilege and the way they are racialized. At TGC\, we discuss our gendered experiences as people that are racialized as Black or brown in the world. Please choose whether to attend our meetings based on these reflections. \n\n\n\nOur virtual monthly meetings are held over Zoom and take place on the last Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8PM EST. SUMMARY:Grief Gardening
\n\n\n\nIn times of grief\, many people find that a connection to land\, earth\, and the tending of life can help carry us through. It is well established that a connection to nature\, no matter how small\, helps improve our experiences of depression\, anxiety\, and sense of well-being. \n\n\n\nPulling from their their personal experiences\, Eli will lead participants in a discussion about; \n\n\n\n\nthe history of Grief Gardening through various cultural perspectives\n\n\n\ngardening as a tool for emotional processing and providing a sense of control and purpose\n\n\n\ncreating sites for remembrance\n\n\n\ntending to a relationship with nature to encourage a sense of hope and renewal\n\n\n\n\nHe will also support participants with ideas about how to get started or expand on our grief gardens. \n\n\n\nEli (they/he) is a gardener and former landscaper\, wetlands restorationist and wildlife biologist currently living on Ohlone land in Oakland. Mutual aid\, covid realism\, disability justice\, queerness and art as well as gardening all help them with the little and big sources of grief that life brings us.
