SUMMARY:Known Mysteries | Play-through + Q&A
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a unique and interactive opportunity to do a partial playthrough and Q&A of Known Mysteries. The first Solar Server solar-powered indie game. This event will be hosted by Kara Stone (creator of Solar Server and Known Mysteries visiting all the way from Calgary) and PARTYGIRL (voice of Sorrow\, lead). \n\n\n\nTrailer available here! \n\n\n\nKnown Mysteries is a lo-fi climate fable about the desire to escape Earth. A deduction game set in a near-future Canada held captive by massive oil companies. The player guides Sorrow through the mysteries she uncovers upon her return to her hometown after the death of her mothers. \n\n\n\nSolar Server is an autonomous solar powered web server run from Kara Stone’s apartment balcony in Calgary\, Alberta\, Canada. It will host a series of videogames designed to be low-carbon and have environmental themes in the games. Read articles about Solar Server in The Guardian\, Tech Radar\, and CNET. \n\n\n\nKara Stone is an artist and scholar making work about psychosocial disability\, sexuality\, and the environment. She works in different media but most often in interactive art and experimental videogames. Her artwork has been featured in The Atlantic\, Wired\, and VICE\, and exhibited at Athens Digital Art Festival in Greece\, Vector Game Art Festival in Toronto\, Canada and a solo exhibition at Babycastles in New York City\, USA. She is a member of the Different Games Collective\, a horizontal organization dedicated to expanding the culture and industry of games. \n\n\n\nEvent Agenda:\n\n\n\n6:45pm arrive \n\n\n\n7:00 pm live playthrough* \n\n\n\n8:00pm Q&A \n\n\n\n8:45pm short 15min musical performance by PARTYGIRL \n\n\n\n9pm-9:30pm mingle and wrap-up \n\n\n\n* The game is currently free to play online (climate permitting) and while we will do our best to avoid spoliers we encourage you to play it ahead of the event. There are multiple endings to the game so each combination of choices throughout the playthrough has an impact on what ending you trigger. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE:\n\n\n\nThis is a PWYC event. Please select the most accessible tier for you! We will be accepting cash donations at the event as well. If you are unable to make a financial contribution we encourage you select the “cash/free” tier and simply attend as a guest\, inquire about an exchange\, or take photos/write a little review. All money will go to venue + project. \n\n\n\nStreet parking only!

SUMMARY:The Activate Mini Kiki Ball
DESCRIPTION:Queer people around the world know all too well what it feels like to live in the shadows. We’re told we’re not enough\, and that the best we can expect is a world that’s ashamed of us. \n\n\n\nBut it only takes one moment to ACTIVATE your power and release it into the world. This is that moment… \n\n\n\nThink of this ball as a retelling of a story we all know too well. The journey of an oftentimes lonely queer kid discovering their power\, building true community around them\, and falling in love with themselves all over again. \n\n\n\nThis is a story of hope. A story of resilience. A story of creativity. And a chance to finally be ourselves\, surrounded by a community that celebrates us\, even in a world that’s tried to make us feel unworthy.

SUMMARY:Telling My Queer Story
DESCRIPTION:Taking place over TWO SESSIONS May 29th and May 30th 7-9pm eastern time with the same link. \n\n\n\nFacilitated by Jeffrey Canton and Hosted by Queer Community Deathcare We often share anecdotes about our daily experiences as 2SLGBTQIA+ without realizing their potential as stories. This workshop will teach you how to transform these “moments of being” into a compelling work of art. By focusing on one or more meaningful life experiences\, you’ll learn to shape a written piece that highlights the importance of these moments and connects deeply with readers. As a storyteller\, Jeffrey Canton also wants to encourage participants to tell their stories aloud – perhaps making a video of you relating your story \n\n\n\nDAY 1 May 29th Workshop Highlights: A focus on finding ways to create a narrative that explores how you could share meaningful life experiences through storytelling\, \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the basics of personal storytelling and its impact \n\n\n\nShape personal stories into artistic experiences through the use of a variety of memory tools including writing prompts and photographs \n\n\n\nExplore various storytelling techniques including using online sources to add depth to your story and\, for those interested\, including adding music\, video\, or other performance tools to your piece \n\n\n\nDevelop a spoken word performance piece if interested for live or video presentation \n\n\n\n\nBy the end of this workshop\, you’ll have the tools to craft and share powerful personal stories. \n\n\n\nDAY 2 May 30th Workshop Highlights: You will learn how to make your story come to life both as a written and as a performance piece\, highlighting both your own experience but also considering your story’s universality so that the importance of these moments of being will connects deeply with readers or with listeners. \n\n\n\n\nConsider how personal 2SLGBTQIA+ storytelling creates a unique space for empathy and understanding and how you can use the sharing of individual experiences to explore voices and perspectives that might not have otherwise had a space to be heard \n\n\n\nShape personal stories into artistic experiences that focus on both the individual and the universal and learn the value of creating a safe space in which to tell personal narratives \n\n\n\nContinue to explore various storytelling techniques\, including adding music\, video\, or other performance tools to enhance the piece participants will be creating \n\n\n\nContinue to develop a written narrative that could also be transformed into a spoken word performance piece for live or video presentation \n\n\n\n\nAccess Details: \n\n\n\nThis workshop takes place virtually on zoom in English. \n\n\n\nThis workshop takes place over two 2-hour sessions. \n\n\n\nAutomatic closed captioning is enabled. \n\n\n\nParticipants can engage with their cameras on or off\, can unmute to speak when ready\, can raise their hands to be called on\, and can type in the chat with their contributions read out loud by the host.
