SUMMARY:IndigiQueer Kinship Group
DESCRIPTION:Welcome! This is a new group created for the Indigenous\, Two-Spirit\, Queer community here in Ottawa. This is a super exciting opportunity and we hope many of you are able to join our group! For the first meeting\, we will be doing introductions\, talking about the nature of the group\, and do some painting and drawing while chatting! We will also have some snacks and drinks.  \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions please reach out at sabrina@kindspace.ca \n\n\n\nGroup Description: \n\n\n\nIndigiQueer Kinship Group is a peer support and social group for Two-Spirit and Queer Indigenous folk. Our group’s goal is to create a safe\, welcoming and culturally inclusive environment where you can meet others who share similar backgrounds and experiences. We understand the importance of having spaces where Indigenous culture is celebrated\, valued and respected. If you want to make new friends\, find support from peers\, or if you want to come and chill\, our group offers a space where you can be yourself without judgment!  \n\n\n\nThe IndigiQueer Kinship Group will run from 1-3 pm on the second Saturday of every month (with the exception of the first meeting).  \n\n\n\nNotes for Participants: \n\n\n\nThis group is open to anyone who identifies as 2SLGBTQIA+ and self-identifies as First Nation\, Inuit\, or Métis\, we want this space to be available for people with varying lived experiences. While we are open to those reclaiming or navigating their culture\, we will not tolerate any intentional false claims of Indigenous identity or pretendians. While we will not police identities at the IndigiQueer\, we expect you to come in good faith\, or you may be asked to leave. We are also open to participants inviting a non-indigenous family member\, partner\, spouse or kids\, as long as they honour what the space is intended for.  \n\n\n\nThis is a social and peer support group in a community center environment. This means no professional mental health\, psychology\, or therapy support is available during the group. As we are all going to be Indigenous and queer folk\, we recognize the many historical and current traumas that our communities have gone through. We also know that we cannot talk about our successes without acknowledging our pain and oppression. However\, we will ask that you try to refrain from bringing up any personal traumatic experiences during group discussions. When separate from the entire group\, talking amongst yourselves\, you will be able to discuss whatever you would like at your own discretion. This rule is to ensure that we do not re-trigger or cause secondary trauma to anyone participating in the group discussions. Talking about what we have gone through is so important\, but this is a space to relax\, and just be.  \n\n\n\nNote for Parents: \n\n\n\nThis group will allow you to bring your children if you do not have childcare options available. It is important to note that we will not be responsible for the entertainment or care for your children. We have toys and games available for them to use\, however it is your responsibility to watch them. If you are bringing your children\, please make sure to fill out this form again for them so we know how many people are attending.  \n\n\n\nAccessibility: \n\n\n\nIf you have any access needs please let us know!  \n\n\n\nAccessibility information can be found here: https://kindspace.ca/about/accessibility/ \n\n\n\nActivities: \n\n\n\nWe will have different activities each time we meet. It will most likely be crafts or games. But if you have any ideas of things or crafts you want to see included\, please do not hesitate to let us know! \n\n\n\nBio of Facilitators: \n\n\n\nHello! My name is Sabrina\, and I am 21 years old. I am an urban Inuk who has lived in Ottawa my entire life. When I was 4 years old I was adopted with my older sister into a primarily white family\, which has resulted in our disconnection from the Inuit language\, culture and community. In the past 5 years\, I have been slowly reconnecting with my culture and with the Indigenous people in the community. I live with FASD\, ADHD and anxiety. I love reading\, cooking and baking. I am a Carleton University student currently in my third year of the Bachelor’s of Social Work program\, with minors in Indigenous Studies\, and Criminology and Criminal Justice. With this group\, I hope to make new friends\, connections and learn more about my Inuit culture\, as well as other Indigenous cultures. I look forward to meeting you all\, and hope to have lots of fun in this group!!

SUMMARY:Forensis Album Release
DESCRIPTION:Instructions for the murder mystery will be given upon entry. Cocktail attire suggested. \n\n\n\nAbout Loch Nisse Monster: \n\n\n\nLoch Nisse Monster rose from the swamps of an Ottawa 70’s-themed house party\, where in a haze the musician was told that her name sounded like the famous monster of Loch Ness. Nisse brings the folky vibe of this mysterious creature to the music\, telling stories and painting emotions. Along with inspiration from the genres of rock\, pop\, and punk\, the “monster” in Loch Nisse Monster doesn’t hesitate to get at ironic and unjust truths. Yet\, with the hope of tales\, Loch Nisse Monster longs to share her music and express things in ways that haven’t been before with the desire to make people feel seen through her song. \n\n\n\nLoch Nisse plays solo\, in ensemble\, or with her trusty band\, who are featured on all recordings to date: Laetitia Lemieux on lead guitar\, Griffin Nguyen on bass\, Chloe Martin on drums\, and Robyn Lichaa on the fiddle. \n\n\n\nAbout hannah vig: \n\n\n\nSince her onstage debut in 2022\, Hannah Vig has been making waves in Ottawa’s music scene. Releasing a debut single and E.P. in 2023 and winning OMIC’s Capital Music Award for Newcomer of the Year in 2024\, Vig has made a name for herself as Ottaw’s sensitive\, sapphic\, singer-songwriter. Originally known for intimate and emotive acoustic performances\, Vig has been joined by a backing band since August 2023. Bringing her rock influences to the fore\, Vig’s soulful voice soars on songs evoking the likes of Boygenius and Olivia Rodrigo. Currently consisting of Eric Montpool (lead guitar)\, Matthew Scharfe (bass)\, and Brendan Vandepol (drums)\, the band adds an exciting energy to her already dynamic sound and hard-hitting lyrics. \n\n\n\nAbout Annie Martel: \n\n\n\nAnnie Martel is a Canadian singer-songwriter and one of Ottawa’s jewels. Martel’s sincere\, contemplative songs are anointed by her unequivocal voice and thoughtful musical style. She has a special way of engaging with complex human themes through her music\, finding healing and release in the magic of songwriting and offering listeners the same opportunity. Annie will be accompanied by her local star-studded band\, whose lush arrangements and skillful sounds elevate each song with poise (& a little bit of rock n’ roll). Having been part of the local music scene for nearly a decade\, Annie is looking forward to ~finally~ releasing her debut album in the coming months – stay tuned! \n\n\n\nMore about Forensis\, the album: \n\n\n\nForensis\, Loch Nisse Monster’s debut album\, is a concept record based around the idea of a murder investigation as a metaphor for a breakup. Forensis is the Latin word for “the forum” or “public affairs\,” but also connects to forensic psychology on a crime scene\, or alternatively\, becomes a representation of the broader uncovering of the truth. The record brings out the following themes relating to the Forensis concept: reluctance of falling in love\, expectations in love\, stages of grief and reckoning in heartbreak\, estrangement\, womanhood and fame\, coming of age\, and existentialism.

SUMMARY:MAX Ottawa: Bantaba
DESCRIPTION:MAX Ottawa is hosting a Bantaba\, facilitated by Rodney Diverlus\, for Black queer folks. This for-us-by-us event will foster a safer space for discussions about Blackening spaces and thriving as a Black queer community in Ottawa. We’ll enjoy a family meal\, share our stories and experiences\, and discuss what we need to keep progressing. \n\n\n\nWhat is Bantaba?Bantaba is more than a gathering—it’s a return to a deeply rooted tradition of collective care\, radical listening\, and community-led transformation. Originating from West Africa\, Bantaba is a circular space where wisdom is shared\, stories are honored\, and futures are co-created. It’s a space without hierarchy—where everyone’s presence and voice holds equal weight. \n\n\n\nWhy Now? Why Ottawa?Ottawa’s Black queer community is experiencing a cultural renaissance — from ballroom to conferences to dancefloors and beyond. Bantaba doesn’t spark this movement; it meets it mid-stride. It offers a moment to ask: Where are we headed? What do we need now? How do we keep building together? \n\n\n\nWhat to ExpectLed by multi-hyphenate artist and strategist Rodney Diverlus\, Bantaba is not a lecture or a panel—it’s a living\, breathing conversation. It’s a space to unpack the realities of being Black and queer in Ottawa\, and to imagine collective paths forward. Your ideas\, your truths\, your presence are vital. There is no audience\, only participants. \n\n\n\nRegister Here! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue Accessibility \n\n\n\n\n\n\nChange rooms\n\n\n\nElevator/Lift\n\n\n\nEntrance/Exit\n\n\n\nFloor surfaces\n\n\n\nInterior\n\n\n\nParking\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPassenger loading zone\n\n\n\nReception desks\n\n\n\nSignage\n\n\n\nStairs\n\n\n\nTelephone\n\n\n\nWashrooms

SUMMARY:Open Stage
DESCRIPTION:Open Stage Night aims to create a safer space to explore performance for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks aged 18+. Folks of all skill levels can sign up to perform any art form of their choosing\, which can encompass music\, drag\, poetry\, and more. \n\n\n\nFolks who are interested in attending Open Stage Night without performing are also encouraged to sign up below.  \n\n\n\nWhat is an open stage/open mic night? \n\n\n\nThese are typically events where audience members can practice their performance skills or promote their upcoming shows. Consider this event more of a rehearsal than a professional show\, where we can center folks within our communities who aren’t typically given opportunities to practice their skills in front of a live audience. Tipping/donating to performers is encouraged. \n\n\n\nPlease note that performers are required to provide a short description of their performance with their registration. Performances should align with Kind Space values. We also have a limited setup as a venue\, so we ask that performers bring what they need or request it in the form\, and we’ll respond if we can provide it or not. If we have any additional questions about your performance following registration\, you will be contacted via email. \n\n\n\nMaximum Attendees (Including Performers): 35 people \n\n\n\nPlease email us if you are unable to make it to Open Stage Night once you register. Upon completing this registration form\, you should receive an automatic email confirmation with some additional details. If you have not received this after 24 hours\, please let us know. \n\n\n\nAccessibility Notes: https://kindspace.ca/about/accessibility/
