DESCRIPTION:Beginning and emerging poets are invited to join facilitator Ben Ladouceur for a poetry workshop on the eve of Pride Month in Ottawa! \n\n\n\nBen will guide participants through writing prompts inspired by some of the best contemporary queer and ally poets. \n\n\n\nWhether you write poetry all the time or haven’t touched it for many years – if you want to explore and create poetry in a safe and productive space\, you will find this workshop worthwhile. You will walk away with three or four new poems in your notebook\, to continue working on at your own pace. \n\n\n\nParticipants will also be invited (if they want to) to take part in a reading in late August alongside authors Kimberly Quiogue Andrews\, Kevin Shaw and Sanita Fejzić (details to come). \n\n\n\nNote: The workshop is free but you need a library card (also free) to register. \n\n\n\nAbout Ben:Ben Ladouceur is an author living on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation (Ottawa). His first book\, Otter\, was selected as a best book of 2015 by the National Post\, nominated for a Lambda Literary Award\, and awarded the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award; his second book\, Mad Long Emotion\, was awarded the Archibald Lampman Prize. He is the recipient of the Writers’ Trust Dayne Ogilvie Prize for emerging LGBT+ writers\, and a National Magazine Award for Poetry. His short fiction has been featured in the Journey Prize Anthology and awarded the Thomas Morton Prize. His debut novel\, I Remember Lights\, was published by Book*hug Press in April 2025.

DESCRIPTION:We’re kicking off Pride month with an afternoon party at @TheGrove featuring @djdelpilar! Expect high-energy dance tracks and all your fave queers! \n\n\n\nTea dances were events organized on Sunday afternoons in the US gay community\, originating in New York in the 1950s and 1960s. The original dances included tea services rather than alcohol as it was illegal to serve alcohol to queer and trans people. To lower the chances of a police raid\, these dances were held on Sunday afternoons and served non-alcoholic drinks. \n\n\n\nGet fancy and dance with cuties! Tea dances were one of the only places where people could express themselves\, so we fully encourage outfits! \n\n\n\nHighlights \n\n\n\n\nThis event centers people who are queer and/or trans who take covid precautions in their everyday lives. Allies who take covid precautions are also welcome but please be mindful that this is primarily a space for queer and/or trans folks. We also welcome 2SLGBTQIA+ folks who are interested in a sober-friendly space and who will respect the covid-safer protocols of this event!\n\n\n\nMask mandatory event (KN95 or better). Masks are provided at the door and required before entry\n\n\n\nThis is a substance-free and sober-friendly event. Guests are welcome to consume before or after the event\, but please be mindful of intoxication levels.\n\n\n\nSliding scale tickets.\n\n\n\nThe canteen is open for non-alcoholic beverages. DESCRIPTION:Route & Plan: Meet Saturday morning at 8am near Riverside South\, ride to the Merrickville Lockstation\, come back Sunday morning to mid afternoon. Estimated to be 110km round-trip\, and we will ride as a group at an easy pace (15-20km/h). \n\n\n\nTrip Highlights: Merrickville has many cute shops\, a beach\, and restaurants. We will have most of the afternoon and evening to explore them. \n\n\n\nWe will be riding on the road with cars\, on paved shoulders where possible but also with traffic on some country roads. There will be snack stops along the way but this will be a challenging trip.  \n\n\n\nBe prepared with lots of water\, snacks\, a spare tube for your bike\, and electrolytes. \n\n\n\nCost: $25 (1 night of camping\, Saturday dinner) \n\n\n\nSpots are limited to 25 people and will be closed once full. More information will be sent after sign up closes on August 1. \n\n\n\nBasic gear required: Bike\, camping gear (Tent\, sleeping pad\, sleeping bag)\, food ( Saturday Lunch\, Sunday breakfast and weekend snacks)\, a way to carry everything. DESCRIPTION:A running and walking club for 2SLGBTQ+ community and friends in the National Capital Region\, meeting Tuesday nights\, Friday nights\, and Saturday mornings (09:00 (spring\, summer\, fall); 09:30 (winter; from the first Saturday of December to the last Saturday of March)) at 111 Lisgar Street\, the rear entrance of City Hall. \n\n\n\nRuns are held: \n\n\n\n\nTuesdays at 6:30 pm\, after which we go for coffee (Routes)\n\n\n\nSaturdays at 9:00 am (9:30 am from the first Saturday of December to the last Saturday of March inclusive)\, followed by breakfast  (Routes)\n\n\n\n\nWomen’s 5km run \n\n\n\n\nFridays at 5:00 pm\n\n\n\nThis event is open to all who identify as women\, female-identifying\, non-binary\, and Two-Spirit individuals\n\n\n\nFor more details\, please email wmns@ottawafrontrunners.org \n\n\n\n\nNOTICE: 2025 Gatineau runs — Saturdays\, 10 May\, 14 June\, 12 July\, 9 August\, 13 September\, and 11 October. \n\n\n\nCancellation of runs are rare\, only owing to holidays and hazardous weather. DESCRIPTION:OSPN in partnership with The Good Companions is delighted to offer in person programming to our 55+ LGBTQ2+ community.  \n\n\n\nJoin us every second and fourth Saturday of the month for a range of engaging activities\, from educational workshops to social programming\, all designed to foster connection\, support\, and enjoyment.
