In addition to the screening\, Horak will discussing and launching her new book on trans cinema\, Trans Cinema: Making Communities\, Identities\, and Worlds \n\n\n\n“Pat\, the evasive\, androgynous SNL character played by Julia Sweeney\, was a ubiquitous presence in the pop culture ether of the 1990s. As a kid\, filmmaker Ro Haber grappled with a strange obsession with Pat — a character whose popularity hinged on them making others wildly uncomfortable with their refusal to adhere to strict gender lines. Both time and their identity moved forward and yet\, even as an adult\, Haber’s preoccupation remained. Now\, 35 years after the first “It’s Pat” sketch debuted on SNL\, Tribeca alum filmmaker Haber and a who’s who of queer and trans comedians and writers (including Sweeney herself) come together to confront the existence of Pat. DESCRIPTION:Confluence will take you on an introspective journey of life\, artistry and queerness via a 3 act drag show that will examine the cast’s past\, present and future through live drag performances enhanced by props\, dancers\, visuals\, lights and all the crazy fixings a drag artist could dream of in a intimate black box setting. You will also be getting to know the artists a little better through a series of candid interviews done with each artists that frames the show.  \n\n\n\nWhat brought us to drag? How does it make us the people we are? How do we want our art to mold the people we will become? Confluence looks to answer these questions in a mixed media drag show that blends spectacle\, live performance\, technology\, and queerness. This is going to be unlike anything Ottawa has ever seen.  \n\n\n\nCAST: Caligula\, Francis Coe\, Shebiscuit\, Rip Em\, Vex Scandal \n\n\n\nACCESSIBILITY: Wheelchair accessible\, sensory aids on location. \n\n\n\nDISCLAIMER: Colorful lights and loud music.  \n\n\n\nEVENT: No official age restrictions but the show has a general 16+ vibe to it. It’s part of the Youth Infringement Festival but as a separate show from the rest of the plays happening so its not as youth-focused.

Building on last year’s concert of protest songs\, this year’s program continues the call to action by challenging the expectations that hold us back while embracing the change needed to move forward. Urgent\, hopeful\, and powerful\, RISE blurs the line between stage and seats as we raise our voices together.  \n\n\n\nThe concert will be approx. 75 mins with an intermission.  \n\n\n\nThe venue is First Unitarian\, which is a wheelchair accessible space and has gender neutral single stall washrooms in addition to multiple stall gendered washrooms. Seating is cushioned wooden pews. The space is secular in nature.  \n\n\n\nFree parking is available on site and there are nearby bus stops.
