SUMMARY:Transform Gender Collective (TGC) Monthly Meetings
DESCRIPTION:Transform Gender Collective (TGC) is a support and discussion group for transmasculine and masculine-of-center Black\, indigenous\, and people of color (BIPOC) to learn about transformative justice\, unlearn toxic gendered behaviors\, and imagine what masculinity could look like outside of the gender binary. \n\n\n\nDuring our virtual meetings\, we will dive deep into the framework of transformative justice (TJ) and how we can apply it to our everyday lives\, create a community of support for one another\, and share our personal stories of coming into our genders. Our ultimate goal is to move the group towards a closed community accountability space where we can practice robust transformative justice as we heal and grow in our masculinities together. \n\n\n\nTGC is open to any Black\, Indigenous\, and/or person of color (BIPOC) who identifies as transmasculine or masculine-of-center\, regardless of gender identity. \n\n\n\nWe ask that white-passing BIPOC reflect on their privilege and the way they are racialized. At TGC\, we discuss our gendered experiences as people that are racialized as Black or brown in the world. Please choose whether to attend our meetings based on these reflections. \n\n\n\nOur virtual monthly meetings are held over Zoom and take place on the last Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8PM EST. Register below to receive the link!

SUMMARY:Lessons from Queer History: A Webinar for Emerging Queer and Trans Advocates
DESCRIPTION:In looking back at queer history\, we can draw lessons from past political organizing to generate a sense of optimism and agency as our communities stare down resurgent hate\, polarization and attacks on human rights.  \n\n\n\nThis webinar is all about sharing movement wisdom with new\, emerging and young activists to provide the next generation with tangible opportunities to contribute to 2SLGBTQIA+ movements and organizing. Join us to rekindle your hope\, learn from movement elders\, and dream together of a more free\, equal and just future for 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

SUMMARY:Naked Boys Reading: "Community and Belonging"
DESCRIPTION:They get naked. They read. A different theme every month from Ottawa’s trailblazing literary salon — since July 2017. \n\n\n\nNBR is a queer-produced community show that’s open to everyone. We celebrate all genders and sexualities. This is not erotic “adult entertainment” — which we’re cool with — but that’s not this. \n\n\n\nThis month\, we’re looking at communities: how do we find them\, their advantages and disadvantages\, and what happens when someone tries to dismantle them. \n\n\n\nDoors will open at 7:00 p.m. The show will begin at 8:00 p.m. sharp. Seating is first-come\, first-served: if you’re attending as a party of three or more people\, it is best to arrive early to find seating together. \n\n\n\nWe regret that the venue is inaccessible to some people. It is on the second floor of the building and accessible only via stairs. Non-gendered washrooms are available.

SUMMARY:Working across Communities: How to be culturally aware when doing political activism
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is ideal for anyone involved in political or community work who wants to ensure their activism is grounded in respect\, cultural safety\, and meaningful relationship-building. Whether you’re new to this learning or deepening an existing practice\, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how to advocate for change in ways that uplift Indigenous sovereignty rather than overshadow it. \n\n\n\nQueer Momentum’s Winter Webinars\n\n\n\nThrough our webinars\, we help power-up 2SLGBTQIA+ advocates and allies with training on effective advocacy\, movement-building and community organizing. These sessions are free\, and intended to help you – as an activist or ally – become a stronger advocate.  \n\n\n\nThis winter\, we’re bringing you five sessions designed and delivered by our team\, ranging from effective messaging to arts-based activism to undertaking culturally aware advocacy. We’re proud of these sessions\, and excited to share them with you. All sessions will be recorded and shared with registrants – so don’t hesitate to sign up even if you can’t make it during the time-slot.

SUMMARY:Confluence: A Live Drag Experience
DESCRIPTION:Confluence will take you on an introspective journey of life\, artistry and queerness via a 3 act drag show that will examine the cast’s past\, present and future through live drag performances enhanced by props\, dancers\, visuals\, lights and all the crazy fixings a drag artist could dream of in a intimate black box setting. You will also be getting to know the artists a little better through a series of candid interviews done with each artists that frames the show. \n\n\n\nWhat brought us to drag? How does it make us the people we are? How do we want our art to mold the people we will become? Confluence looks to answer these questions in a mixed media drag show that blends spectacle\, live performance\, technology\, and queerness. This is going to be unlike anything Ottawa has ever seen. \n\n\n\nCAST: Caligula\, Francis Coe\, Shebiscuit\, Rip Em\, Vex Scandal \n\n\n\nACCESSIBILITY: Wheelchair accessible\, sensory aids on location. \n\n\n\nDISCLAIMER: Colorful lights and loud music. \n\n\n\nEVENT: No official age restrictions but the show has a general 16+ vibe to it. It’s part of the Youth Infringement Festival but as a separate show from the rest of the plays happening so its not as youth-focused.

SUMMARY:Queerspora
DESCRIPTION:Moving to a new country can bring many surprises\, and sexuality is often one of the biggest areas where cultural differences show up. For queer newcomers\, navigating these differences can feel confusing\, eye-opening\, overwhelming\, or empowering. Ideas about dating\, intimacy\, consent\, public displays of affection\, sexual health\, and queer identity may be very different from what we grew up with. \n\n\n\nJoin MAX and other queer newcomers for an open conversation about sexual cultural shock: the moments when the norms\, attitudes\, and expectations around sex and relationships in Canada feel unfamiliar or surprising. Together\, we’ll explore how these cultural shifts affect our sense of identity\, comfort\, safety\, and pleasure. \n\n\n\nMake sure to RSVP through the form below! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNotes about access\n\n\n\n\nThe room is on ground level\, so no elevators needed. And accessible washroom are marked with appropriate signage (all on the same level).\n\n\n\nWe’ll have signs posted to help redirect you if you get lost!\n\n\n\nCentretown Community Health Centre is right around the corner from bus stops for the 6\, 7\, and 11. We’re about a 5-minute walk from the nearest stop for the 14\, and a 10-minute walk from Parliament Station (Line 1 of the O-train). There are also several paid parking lots and garages within walking distance. If transit is a barrier for you to attend a session\, let us know and we’ll help you out!\n\n\n\nSigned up for a session but can no longer make it? No problem — just shoot us an email at queerspora@maxottawa.ca as soon as you can.
