This event is PWYC with a suggested donation of $20-$25. \n\n\n\nRiverbed Reading Series is an inclusive\, experimental gathering space. DESCRIPTION:Laylit\, the acclaimed platform and collective celebrating music and artists from the Arab and SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) region and its diaspora\, is bringing its seventh anniversary tour to Club SAW in Ottawa on Saturday\, September 6\, 2025\, presented in partnership with Debaser.  \n\n\n\nThe anniversary stop will feature an electrifying lineup: New York City-based Arianna Danae\, Ottawa’s own DJ Zraa\, and Laylit resident DJs Nadim Maghzal and MNSA. Together\, they will deliver a vibrant dance party that pushes musical boundaries while fostering queer community connection.  \n\n\n\n19+ event / licensed  \n\n\n\nClub SAW is a wheelchair accessible space. The indoor venue is accessible by a ramp from street level\, the doors are automatic\, and bathrooms are wheelchair accessible (including adult-sized change tables). Bathrooms are also gender neutral.  \n\n\n\nFree harm reduction supplies\, including masks and earplugs\, are available at the box office.

DESCRIPTION:Eva Crocker is a writer and editor based in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal). She is the author of two novels\, All I Ask and Back in the Land of the Living\, and the short story collection Barrelling Forward.  Her new short story collection Bargain Bargain Bargain will be published in 2025. She is the organizer of the Lamp Lit reading series and regularly runs a short fiction workshop open to people of all experience levels. \n\n\n\nDr. Androbox is Ottawa’s premier singing\, storytelling drag king. Originally of St. John’s\, Newfoundland\, this king of crinoline and coattails captured the title of Mr. Capital Pride 2022 after three years off-stage due to his ongoing battle with ulcerative colitis. Dr. Androbox is literally a drag king on steroids\, and is proudly trans\, crip\, and neurospicy. Together with his 7-piece band\, The Pronouns\, he is the only drag king in the world to have released a full album of original music. This comedic crooner will delight you with his powerful voice and fabulous finery\, leaving you hungry for more of his catchy melodies and moving stories. \n\n\n\nMLA Chernoff is a Toronto-based writer whose debut poetry collection\, [SQUELCH PROCEDURES]\, was released by Gordon Hill Press in 2021. They are the author of seven poetry chapbooks\, including TERSE THIRSTY\, I’M LIKE THE GREAT GRANDCHILD OF MARX & COCA-COLA (BUT NON-BINEY)\, and ESTRO FLUNKY. MLA’s work has been featured in numerous journals\, such as PRISM International\, The Ex-Puritan\, and Peach Mag. Over the last seven years their dance parties have carved out an unmatched place in North American and European nightlife\, becoming an anticipated social gathering and unique musical experience. With recent features in the New York Times and Pitchfork and three Boiler Room events in NYC\, DC and Montreal\, the party is now active in more than 10 cities.  \n\n\n\nEach party takes you on a genre-spanning journey\, highlighting the incredible musical diversity\, depth and richness that comes out of the region. Laylit has established its place on the scene with a signature electronic sound blending shaabi\, dabke\, mahraganat\, Arabic pop and hip-hop with contemporary\, boundary pushing dance music (techno\, breakbeat\, hyperpop…) inspired by New York and Montreal’s thriving underground clubs.  \n\n\n\nLaylit values inclusivity and unity across cultures\, languages\, dialects\, religions\, identity and sexual orientations. \n\n\n\nLINEUP\n\n\n\nMina \n\n\n\nMNSA \n\n\n\nNadim Maghzal \n\n\n\nManalou \n\n\n\nACCESSIBILITY\n\n\n\nClub SAW is a wheelchair accessible spaces. Their 3rd album “Shoebox” (2023) expresses the journey of healing intergenerational trauma and celebrating the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Their singles “This Dyke” appear on popular TV series The L Word: Generation Q and “On My Way” appear in Apex Legends Season 19. This past year Kim’s original music production was featured in the TV series Sort Of (out now on HBO\, CBC) and they’re currently writing for another TV Series (TBA). Their music video “Blue and Orange” directed by Aya garcia and co-written by Kimmortal and Tin lorica received the Best Music Video Award at the 2024 Disorient Asian American film festival. Her talent has garnered attention beyond the stage\, as evidenced by her interview on Alan Neal’s “All in a Day” and features in various articles highlighting her artistic contributions. Shay has also left her mark in projects like “Pieces Of Us\,” where her creative voice resonates. \n\n\n\nOG500 Performance | Instagram \n\n\n\nKING KIMBIT \n\n\n\nKing Kimbit is a literary Hip-Hop artist born and raised on unceded Algonquin territory (Ottawa)\, passionate about empowering youth\, community care\, and sharing love through writing\, reciting\, and the abolition of punitive\, carceral institutions. King has performed solo and as part of ensembles in music and theatre across Turtle Island\, Jamaica\, and Vietnam. She is currently creating her sophomore album\, Healing Trauma From The Projects. Since 2018\, she has teamed up with Jo-Anne Bryan\, Carmelle Cachero\, and Jordan Samonas\, as a writer and the vocalist of their group\, Speaking Vibrations. That year\, King co-founded Cap City Cyphers (CCC)\, a space for rappers and singers to learn and develop improvisational skills and build community. Over the last four years their dance parties in New York City and Montreal have carved out an unmatched place in North American nightlife\, becoming an anticipated social gathering and unique musical experience. \nEach party takes you on a genre-spanning journey\, highlighting the incredible musical diversity\, depth and richness that comes out of the region. Laylit has established its place on the scene with a signature electronic sound blending shaabi\, dabke\, mahraganat\, Arabic pop and hip-hop with contemporary\, boundary pushing dance music (techno\, breakbeat\, hyperpop…) inspired by New York and Montreal’s thriving underground clubs. Featured in multiple publications including the New York Times and Pitchfork\, Laylit recently celebrated its 5-year anniversary with a Boiler Room event in NYC and a tour across multiple North American cities.
