Queerspora

March 17 @ 6:30 pm 8:30 pm

Moving to a new country can bring many surprises, and sexuality is often one of the biggest areas where cultural differences show up. For queer newcomers, navigating these differences can feel confusing, eye-opening, overwhelming, or empowering. Ideas about dating, intimacy, consent, public displays of affection, sexual health, and queer identity may be very different from what we grew up with.

Join MAX and other queer newcomers for an open conversation about sexual cultural shock: the moments when the norms, attitudes, and expectations around sex and relationships in Canada feel unfamiliar or surprising. Together, we’ll explore how these cultural shifts affect our sense of identity, comfort, safety, and pleasure.

Make sure to RSVP through the form below!

Notes about access

  1. The room is on ground level, so no elevators needed. And accessible washroom are marked with appropriate signage (all on the same level).
  2. We’ll have signs posted to help redirect you if you get lost!
  3. Centretown Community Health Centre is right around the corner from bus stops for the 6, 7, and 11. We’re about a 5-minute walk from the nearest stop for the 14, and a 10-minute walk from Parliament Station (Line 1 of the O-train). There are also several paid parking lots and garages within walking distance. If transit is a barrier for you to attend a session, let us know and we’ll help you out!
  4. Signed up for a session but can no longer make it? No problem — just shoot us an email at queerspora@maxottawa.ca as soon as you can.
