“Re:Construct(ion)” at undercurrents
February 7 @ 7:00 pm – 7:45 pm
ABOUT THE SHOW
A trans man and his idealized cis self greet onlookers and invite them to be their most authentic, relaxed selves… or else. Through a ritual-like process—cake-decorating, sharing stories of being seen exactly as they want to be, interactive (and competitive) drawing exercises, and question after question after question after question after question—the two make every painstaking effort to get it right this time. They collide. They write letters. They try to show each other what they see. They explain the physics of making a pad adhere to the sides of boxer shorts. Confetti falls. Cake flies. They interrogate the ever-changing distance between what is and what could be. They make a pretty big mess. And every time, they try again.
