ARTIST BIO
PARTYGIRL (Toni van Eeden) is a multi-disciplinary artist exploring themes of the hidden self, grief, and the sensory body. While art has always played an integral role in their work, it wasn’t until 2019 when a devastating and progressive autoimmune condition began to effect their mobility, cognitive functioning, and lucidity, that they would begin to make art as an imperative. To retrieve the messages left on their nervous system and translate them into sensory poetry through various mediums. Their shows and exhibitions are intentionally designed as containers for retrieving hidden messages, collective grieving, and the aftercare required to go a little deeper.
This visual art exhibition and the companion zine (available through Art House during the vernissage on November 14 7-10pm) both titled “Not The Death I Was Expecting” is the story of their drowning and how it saved their life. This exhibition represents volumes I-III of the story which will continue to unfold through a series of zines over the course of the next ten years.
