The Handy Guide to DoxyPEP

November 4, 2026

What do you know about DoxyPEP?

The Handy Guide to DoxyPEP is an original community education resource developed by MAX Ottawa. Our goal is simple: Provide you with all the knowledge and understanding you need to know if doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (DoxyPEP) is right for you, and how to use it safely. The guide reflects the views of our organization, but has been shaped by the best current evidence, research, guidance, and community knowledge—from researchers to frontline workers. With a strong emphasis on design, the guide features original artwork by illustrator Denis Moran.

Gay Bar 1969

The guide will be published on November 19th at our launch event, Gay Bay 1969. Think of it as a smutty cocktail hour before the dance party. There’ll be a stocked bar, 60’s homoerotica on the screens, and an auction on the original artwork created for the guide. Come raise a glass and celebrate the launch of our latest resource.

Why 1969? Beyond the Stonewall Riots, 1969 was the first year doxycycline (the “doxy” in doxyPEP) was marketed in Canada. Leaning on the theme of pleasure as a driver for action, our new guide shows that using doxyPEP can be an act of personal and sexual empowerment, giving you a tool to make informed decisions about your sexual health.

The guide features original illustrations by local artist Dennis Moran, currently working as a Senior Effects Animator on X-Men ‘97. Throughout the night, we’ll be auctioning off the original pen-and-ink versions of the artwork. Along with ticket and merch sales, these funds will support our programs, services, and resource development, helping us better serve our community.
