About our program
Senior Pride Online lends free tablets with LTE network connections to 2SLGBTQ+ seniors (65+) unable to access a device and/or internet connection of their own. Participants may keep the tablets for a period of 2 to 4 weeks, and rental priority will be given to those in need of primary and mental health care. We are offering both in-person and mailed delivery of devices, and can provide in-person support for setting up tablets with the help of our Tablet Rental Support Workers. This program is in direct response to COVID-19, which has only exacerbated pre-existing risk factors amongst 2SLGBTQ+ seniors. Our goals are to increase 2SLGBTQ+ seniors’ access to their community, increase their access to virtual care, and reduce experiences of isolation and loneliness. Tablets will be dispensed to program participants beginning the week of August 24th.
Who are the Tablet Rental Support Workers?
Our Tablet Rental Support Workers are members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community or allies with advanced technological literacy skills. All volunteers for Senior Pride Online are certified as Connected Canadians Volunteer Technology Mentors, and maintain an up-to-date Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check.
What are the tablets that we rent?
We are lending the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0.
How long can I keep the tablet for?
Participants can keep their tablet for a period of 2-4 weeks, depending on individual needs and program demand.
How will I receive the tablet?
Participants may have their tablet mailed directly to them, or delivered in-person by our program volunteers.
Is there a cost associated with any aspect of the service?
There is no cost to participate in this program.
What if the tablet breaks?
All tablets will be provided with a case to limit risk of breaking. The number of tablets our program can dispense will be dependent on the ongoing maintenance of these devices. MAX will allocate funds for two replacement tablets each year when the need occurs.
How will COVID-19 protocols be respected during program facilitation?
All tablets and cases are cleaned prior to their delivery, and will be cleaned upon their return as well. Volunteers meeting with program participants will be wearing masks when necessary and respecting social-distancing guidelines. This program will also offer over-the-phone tech support as an alternative to in-person tech support.
How can I return a tablet?
Participants may opt to have their tablet picked up by one of our volunteers, or choose to drop it off at our office by scheduling an appointment.

Senior Pride Online Applicant Form
Tablets will be dispensed to program participants beginning the week of August 24th. This form is to apply for a free tablet from MAX Ottawa and the Ottawa Senior Pride Network. Tablets will come with an LTE mobile internet connection and can be borrowed for a period of 2-4 weeks. This service is intended to reach two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, and asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) seniors (65+) living in the nation’s capital region. All applicants will be notified as soon as a tablet becomes available for them.
