Transitions at MAX

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world as we know it. Over the past few months, MAX has been working hard to adapt to the emerging health and wellness needs of our communities with innovative initiatives. Additionally, MAX is undergoing other important transitions for our organization.

We have moved!

You can now find MAX Ottawa in more spacious offices on the 9th floor of 400 Cooper. This move also strategically places us closer with our partners, The Ten Oaks Project and Centretown Community Health Centre (CCHC). Since 2018, CCHC has been the home to Gay Zone Gaie and is currently home to the LGBTQ2S+ Walk-in Counselling Clinic. The CCHC continues to serve as a community space for multiple MAX group programs.

As public health guidelines advise on upcoming reopening measures, receive updates on our in-person services on our COVID19 response page.

We are recruiting an ED!

After four very exciting years as MAX’s first Executive Director, Roberto Ortiz has decided to step down from his position and start a new professional chapter in his life.

“As our first Executive Director, Roberto helped us build Ontario’s first gay men’s health and wellness organization to a position of strength and recognition locally, provincially, and nationally. More importantly, he did so by leading a dedicated team internally, and gaining the respect of our external partners” said Brent Bauer, Chair of the Board.

“I am very proud of the organization that we have built together with the staff, the Board, the volunteers, community members, and partners. During these four years I was honoured to be part of the branding and launch of MAX, the growth of the team and the programs, obtaining charitable status, the development of our 2019-22 Strategic Plan, the move to our new office, and countless other milestones that we have achieved together” shared Ortiz.

The Board of Directors has started the recruitment process to find a successor. The job posting can be found under the employment section on our website. In the interim, Matthew Harding, Community Programs Manager, will serve as the acting Executive Director of MAX Ottawa.
